She was born Oct 23, 1896 in Sweden and died August 24, 1988 in Phoenix, Arizona. Her husband was Maurice Cohn, but I don't know if he survived her or not. I'm guessing no, since she died at the age of 92 years and 1 day. I don't know for a fact though. Her younger brother was my grandfather (Maurice Anderson). He died in Illinois in 1966. Even a link to a newspaper would be great. If you can be of any help, I would be very grateful. Thank you in advance and God Bless. --- Selene

If you go to http://recorder.maricopa.gov/search3.asp you will end up on the Maricopa County Recorders site map. Look down the left side of the page and click on either two search regimens of your choice; Documents 1983 to present or Documents 1968 through 1982 and you will find dozens of records for most of the family names you are researching. Just enter the last name first, add a space and then the given name with no commas and press enter. Some of the records you can actually view online free of charge. All the records can be purchased for a minimum fee. As an example I viewed a July 9, 1999 deed favoring Ella M. Blythe, 1028 East Harmont Drive, Phoenix, AZ 85020. This particular document you can print images of each page if you use a screen print utility. I found records for Ruby B. NUNN, Leslie R. and Leslie Stephen NUNN who might be Ruby's sons given her husband was named Leslie. I also found records for Nellie A. MATTHEWS, Ella M. BLYTHE, H. E. BLYTHE (Ella's husband presumably), Paul R. NUNN (Ruby's husband), Bernice CALLEY, Billie Lenice MILES, Alexander C. MCADAMS (Bernice's father), James L. MATTHEWS (a possible son of Nellie), Vivian Maxine DUDDING just to mention a few. The types of records found searching on your research subjects are; deeds, releases, notices, easements, agreements, deed trusts, financial statements, sales agreements, federal tax lien, real estate tax lien, judgement, license pending, release of limited partnership, T financial statement, mortgage, release of mortgage, power of attorney, divorce decree (Ella), and a certificate of DBA (doing business as). I think you'll enjoy the site as it provides a wealth of information on your research subjects from 1968 to 1999. Good luck and have fun with these resources. Take care. Glen F. Surnames: MARKCUM, CALLEY, BELLE, HAYS, MATTHEWS, BLYTHE, NUNN, MCADAMS, MILES, DUDDING, MILLER, CHANDLER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xU.2ADE/452.5 Message Board Post: Hi Janice - Continuing from the previous post of October 25th, 2002, using Ancestry.com Census Images Online, District 128, the next images are found on image 8 of 19 for the MCADAMS surname. Listed as residing at 298 North Dakota Street, Chandler is Bernice MCADAMS, daughter, white female, age 16, single, born in Texas, father and mother both born in Texas, not employed. She is living with; Alexander MCADAMS, head of household (father of Bernice MCADAMS), white male, age 37, unclear as to whether divorced or widowed (no spouse enumerated on this page), born in Texas as were his mother and father, renting for $10 a month, working for wages as a pressman at a cotton gin. Also listed are; William MCADAMS, brother of Bernice, white male, age 15, single, born in Texas working for wages as a messenger boy for a railroad and a sister, Nannette? (blurred, difficult to read) MCADAMS, white female, age 13, single, also born in Texas. The last image of possible interest to you is 10 of 19 for Ella Mae CALLEY's employer A. J. CHANDLER. The 1930 census lists a Alexander J. CHANDLER, white male, age 70, married since age 60, born in Canada, father born in England, mother born in Scotland, occupation shown interestingly enough as a Capitalist of land development and noted as an entrepeneur. His wife is; Charlotte CHANDLER, white female, age 42. They showed no children being enumerated and they were living on San Marcos Place. Along with he and his wife, his employees (one of which was Ella Mae CALLEY), maintaining two business locations he was also renting rooms to 11 boarders. Alexander J. CHANDLER was obviously a very dynamic individual and undoubtedly there are stories that chroncile his business accumen in newspapers of the day and in biographies available in local libraries. Perhaps Ella Mae CALLEY might be mentioned in such accounts. This concludes what I've been able to find. With this information as a template, you should have little trouble finding other family members in post 1930 public records of various description. Good luck. Glen F. Pritchett, USGENWEB volunteer

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: MARKCUM, CALLEY, BELLE, HAYS, MATTHEWS, BLYTHE, NUNN, MCADAMS, MILES, DUDDING, MILLER, CHANDLER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xU.2ADE/452.4 Message Board Post: Hi Janice - Just for fun I thought I'd see if I could quickly find some of your relations in the 1930 Federal Census for Chandler without an index based on Chandler being a small census enumeration area. Using the addresses found in the Chandler directory for 1931 and using Mapqwest.com I established that 288 North Dakota and 228 North California are still active addresses and almost back to back to one another as each street is the next over from the other. Both streets are just off and west of central Chandler and therefore can be found in District 128, Chandler Town (West part), Maricopa County, Arizona Federal Census 1930. At Ancestry.com, within District 128 images you'll find images 4 and 5 of 19 contains details of the MATTHEWS surname. There is listed Paul MATTHEWS head of household, a white male age 30, who married at age 23, born in Texas, father born in Texas, mother born in Georgia working as a road grader man for the Arizona State Highway Department. He is found living in a duplex or triplex at 225 North California Street with his wife; Nellie MATTHEWS, wife of Paul, a white female age age 26, who married at age 19, born in Arkansas, father born in Georgia, mother born Arkansas, and not employed. They are renting for $10 monthly and no children of their union are shown in the enumeration. This may be your Nellie A. CALLEY if her other relations in the Chandler area prove to also be born in Arkansas, with parents born in Georgia and Arkansas respectively. At the same address appears to be Paul's brother William, age 29, his wife Edith age 26, daughter Helen age 6, son Eugene 4 years and 8 months and possibly their father Ian? MATTHEWS age 60 a widower and a son George age 18 (possible brother of Paul and William). Staying with Image 5 of 19 further down the page is the CALLEY and MILLER surnames. Residing down the street from 225 North California Street is a duplex at 289 North California Street that shows a Ella M. CALLEY, a white female, age 22 and single, born in Arkansas, father in Georgia and mother born in Arkansas. This clearly appears to be the sister of Nellie B. (Calley) MATTHEWS noted above. Ella declares herself to be a stenographer working for wages for a development company (Chandler Improvement Company). She is noted as residing with her sister and is enumerated as a sister. Her sister is shown as the head of household. That person is; Ruby MILLER (probably your Ruby B. Calley), white female, age 19, married at age 17, born in Arkansas, father born in Alabama (maybe guessed when asked by the enumerator), mother born in Arkansas, telephone operator working for wages at the telephone company. There is no listing for her husband, but if this is the same Ruby NUNN mentioned in 1931 then she either was divorced in Maricopa County or her husband died during that era and then she married W. Leslie NUNN and moved to nearby Phoenix. Also listed is her child; Robbie MILLER, a daughter, listed as white female, age 10 months, born in Washington, father (unknown as not listed) born in Oklahoma, mother born in Arkansas. This would mean that Ruby came to Arizona and Chandler sometime in 1929 following the birth of her daughter. Perhaps her husband stayed, or died in Washington, or, as earlier noted divorced in Maricopa before her marriage to W. Leslie NUNN by 1931. I'll continue with the MCADAMS and CHANDLER information in another posting. Glen F. Pritchett, USGENWEB volunteer

Route 5 as defined in the rural postal directory for 1931 is generally central Phoenix south of Van Buren and eastward towards Tempe and Chandler bounded by the streets of Euclid, Toltec, Edgemont and Luhrs Station. However, in today's Phoenix this would be considered south city central. There is no occupation nor employer listed for W. Leslie or Ruby nor is there any middle initial shown for Ruby making it impossible to conclude from this listing that this is your Ruby B. CALLEY. I looked further at my 1941, 1945 and 1947 Phoenix City directories and they are not listed. If this is your Ruby B. CALLEY they may have moved to Chandler to join other family members. I have no Chandler directories of this era other than the 1931 previously referenced in other postings. I also found another business address for the Chandler Improvement Company in my 1931 directory classified ads. They had a business address in Phoenix in that year at 240 North Central Avenue. In the address cross directory for 1931 240 North Central is only occupied by Chandler Improvement Company. Good luck. Glen F. Pritchett, USGENWEB volunteer

(Nellie) county emp (occupation - Maricopa County employee - old personnel records may still exist with family genealogical information) h 229 N Calif". While the listing of a Nellie MATTHEWS doesn't define her middle initial with a "A." or a "C." (for Calley) it seems like a good fit given your Nellie CALLEY was born in 1902 and would likely be married by age 29 (1931) and possibly living in or near the same community as her mother (if "Belle" is Armanda). Either way, probably another easy one to find in the 1930 census images at Ancestry.com or your nearest FHL branch. Obviously, the 1930 census data would confirm if this your Nellie Calley. Good luck. Glen F. Pritchett, USGENWEB volunteer

J. Chandler President, real estate and development, 2 South San Marcos Place, telephone 25 - note - A. J. Chandler might be the founder of Chandler and a telephone number in 1931 was quite rare) r (resides with another party at this address) 288 N Dakota (residence address)". This may be your Ella M. CALLEY. Right below Ella's listing is "Calley Matthew N (Belle)(spouse) h (head of household - other relations may be present, i.e. Ella) 288 N Dakota". There is no occupation or employer listed for Matthew or Belle, nor is there any phone number listed. It appears this Matthew and Belle are related to Ella and all living at the same address in a dwelling that is Matthews primary residence. If these are your Calley relations, then they should be easy to find in the 1930 Federal census images at Ancestry.com. The Belle shown as Matthews spouse is interesting. Perhaps she is the Armanda you are seeking, going by the name "Belle" and maybe the mother of Ella. There are no other CALLEY's listed in Chandler. Good luck. Glen F. Pritchett, USGENWEB volunteer
