You can either email, fax or snail mail them a request and they'll do the lookup free of charge. Alternatively, you can wait until a volunteer "picks up" on your request and has the opportunity to work on it for you. Good luck. Glen F. Pritchett, USGENWEB volunteer

    1. [Maricopa] Re: Charlie Morton SHANNON, Mayor of Wickenburg, Arizona (AZ) 1887-1900
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: GALLIGAN, SHANNON, MILLER, Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xU.2ADE/463.1 Message Board Post: Hi Sallie - I recently purchased several short history books of Wickenburg while visiting the Wickenburg Musuem this summer. While both books do not list Charlie Morton SHANNON in the index (he may be mentioned somewhere in the text however), one of books lists chronologically the history of Wickenburg and hence the era that Mayor SHANNON was in office could be studied through other resources. This partial summation extract is taken from "The Town on the Hassayampa, A History of Wickenburg, Mark E. Pry, published by Desert Caballeros Western Museum, 21 North Frontier Street, Wickenburg, Arizona 85390, 520-684-2272, Copyright 1997, ISBN 0-96577377-0-5, page 144": 1890 - Walnut Grove Dam breaks and floods Hassayampa River valley, killing between fifty and seventy persons. That same year the Garcia Cemetery was established. Whether the cemetery was established to meet the burial need of those that died in the flood is not discussed. 1891 - Santa Fe, Prescott & Phoenix Railroad (SFP&P) established 1895 - Wickenburg railroad depot built and service inaugurated along SFP&P line between Ash Fork and Phoenix 1897 - Wickenburg townsite formally surveyed and official plat recorded The above listed events are likely candidates for inclusion in a newspaper report as an a event where the major is likely to be in attendance. Unfortunately, a town newspaper did not come into existence until "1901 - Wickenburg News-Herald, town's first newspaper, established". I would consider contacting the museum to see where early 1901 town newspapers are archived. I would also check to see if newspapers in Phoenix and Prescott carried any stories of the these events. Lastly, you might try Ancestry.com Newspapers On-Line to see if any national paper carried the story of the flood of 1890. It would seem to be newsworthy enough to be included in some papers throughout the nation. To add some context to the era the Wickenburg townsite was laid out in 1868, warfare with the Yavapai Indians ends in 1873 and Wickenburg's first school was established in 1879. Good luck. Glen F. Pritchett, USGENWEB volunteer

    1. [Maricopa] FOIA Research Help
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xU.2ADE/479 Message Board Post: Hi fellow genealogists! I’m a genealogist just like you are. I found a way to use FOIA to request records that actually results in getting records! In my every day professional work I use the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) to acquire records from all areas. The FOIA is a tool that is available to everyone. The request is free but it can be very confusing. You have to know where to send it, you have to have the right request form, a properly worded letter, you have to know what type of information they need to get you what you are looking for. You cannot just send in a generic "find this" request. Using the proper request on the proper form with a properly worded letter you will get the documentation you are seeking if it exists. I received 84 pages in the first probate request, two weeks later, an additional 124 pages. All stuff they copied from microfiche. At $ .10 per page. Some of these records went back to 1838. I will send you the forms (both State and Federal), the request letter, what you need to send them in terms of specifics, if you have them, or if not, where and how to find them. I have compiled a list of each State’s statutes that you will need to format the request form for your particular State. I have included some specific searching directions and examples that may help you. Obtaining information and documentation is what the Freedom of Information Act is for! But you have to know how and where to use it. What specific State statute to request it under. And the records have to exist. The FOIA is available for use in any state for any public record. It does not, not replace the researcher, but for those of us who have been unable to physically get to an out of town location or to contact or afford an active researcher it's great. Again, this is just one tool. My email is genealogyprincess@hotmail.com. I will be glad to help anyone with any additional information or reformatting the forms for other states, other data requests, etc. and will send a request form for that. I am requesting a $6.50 fee for paper, copying, envelope and postage costs. I am not doing this to make money. This package of information is 22 pages and I had no idea this would be responded to in such huge numbers (!!) and to be frank, I can’t afford that kind of copying and postage myself. So, if you’re interested, send $6.50 in cash or check [Kathy Lawler] to Genealogy Princess, 20757 Camden Square, #210, Lathrup Village, MI 48076 or use my Paypal [checking] for $7.00 to Genealogyprincess2000@yahoo.com. Either way, don’t forget your address!! I will send you the information (it’s 22 pages) the very day I receive your address and funds. Lastly, additional information, new ways I can come up with to use FOIA will be sent to you free of charge and I’ll also be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks! Kathleen Lawler

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: BADOVINAC, KRZNARICH Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xU.2ADE/476.2 Message Board Post: Hi Mary - Using the Maricopa County Recorders online recorded documents database, it appears Paul D. KRZNARICH first owned property as early as December 1968 when he took out a first mortgage and gave a financial statement along with what appears to be his wife Mary. Countless other real estate transactions are so recorded in two databases from that date on, suggesting that if Paul D. KRZNARICH was anything to Pauline KRZNARICH it was as some sort of relation, perhaps a son or nephew? I also discovered that while there is only one KRZNARICH in the 1975 metro phone book, there are several KRNARICH's living in Maricopa County during that era for whom documents were recorded at the Maricopa Recorders site. None were for Pauline however. Perhaps Pauline was living with one of the KRZNARICH's of that era? Have you ordered a death certificate or the SSA form 5 assuming she had a social security number? I can look back further from 1973 in my resources, although my next closest is 1960, a large gap between then and 1973. It would seem more prudent to try and fix where she Pauline was living and with whom in 1973 before researching back in time. Good luck. Glen F. Pritchett, USGENWEB volunteer

    1. [Maricopa] Re: KRZNARICH surname - 1975 era
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: BADOVINAC, KRZNARICH, KNIZAVICH, KRIZAVICH, KOZNARICH Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xU.2ADE/476.1 Message Board Post: Hi Rose - Even though your research subject died in 1973 I went to my first closest era resource which is the 1975 Phoenix metro phone book which includes most of the outlying cities from Phoenix but within Maricopa County. In that directory there are no surnames BADOVINAC, KNIZAVICH, KRIZAVICH, KOZNARICH. However on page 555 right center column is the following listing "KRZNARICH Paul D 4132 W McLellan Rd 939-6214" (602 was the area code of that era). This is the only KRZNARICH in the 1114 pages of listings. The USPS has the address in the 85019 area code and the street is renamed from Road to Boulevard. Mapquest.com shows 4132 West McLellan Boulevard (formerly Road in 1975) as an active address in zip code 85019. This zip code is in the north western part of central Phoenix and the area is bounded by Thomas Road to the south, Glendale Avenue to the north, 35th Avenue to the east and 43rd Avenue to the west. If any public record information regarding her last residence at death is for zip code 85019, then its a pretty good chance this "Paul D. KRZNARICH" is a relative, possibly her husband. If this was her residence and she co-owned the property a deed or property tax search back from 1975 to her date of death in 1973 would show any title changes to the property and conclusively pinpoint this as her address. Obviously another is to check and see if Paul D. KRZNARICH is still living and try to contact him. If he's deceased then try to locate surviving relations or interview neighbors of the block of the 4132 address who may still live on the same street. Knowx.com is reporting at least 23 KRZNARICH's owning property in Arizona including several for a Paul D. KRZNARICH (could be his Jr.) with properties in Mesa, Glendale and Phoenix. This is a pay for record site and you could register and buy the public information on all the KRZNARICH's for $2.95 per record, $9.95 for all the records or you can use the records for 24 hours for about $30.00. If you choose to buy any records I would "sleep on it" until you have your research strategy thought out because once you press the "buy" button there is no refund. Please note the only death record Knowx.com shows in public records for Arizona is Pauline KRZNARICH, presumeably your research subject. There are many other techniques that can be employed to find out more about Pauline. After you've digested this material, leave a posting if you need more help. Good luck. Glen F. Pritchett, USGENWEB volunteer
