Hi, I am new to this list. I am searching for Robert Martin Bangert. He was born 08/21/1952 in Glendale Arizona. When I went into the Arizona listing it showed that Glendale was in Maricopa County. I live in Pennsylvania. Any help in locating this person would greatly appreciated. I know that he was adopted by Albert and Ethel Bangert. Thanks for any help in advance. Marie

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: BARKALOW, THOMAS, ROLAN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xU.2ADE/391.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Georgi - In my 1975 Phoenix metro phone directory which includes all areas outside Phoenix city limits there is the following listing on page 987, right column. "Thomas Homer E 332 E Palm Ln 254-2343". 332 East Palm Lane is in the zip code 85004 for Phoenix. 332 East Palm Lane is bordered by East Monte Vista Road to the north, North 3rd Street to the west, East Coronado Road to the south and North 7th Street to the east. 332 East Palm Lane is only 3 1/3 blocks east of the central most street in Phoenix, Central Avenue. If this is your "Homer THOMAS" he was still residing in Phoenix about 3 years after the death of Nor(r)ine BARKALOW THOMAS. I examined the SSDI and found only one "Norine THOMAS", born in 1906, died September 1972 in Phoenix. SSN issued in Arizona; this means she obtained her SSN after 1936 and the SSN of 527-88-9743 appears to be a number for an era later than the late 1940's. If so, and if this is your "Norine THOMAS", it puts her in Arizona probably some time after 1950. Zip code at time of death was 85031. Zip codes shown by the SSDI are not very conclusive because they could represent where the person was last recorded to be at the time of their death; that could be their residence, a hospital, a nursing home, or possibly living with another relation. That zip code can and is often different from the second one that is often used and subsequently reports where the SSA sent monthly SS income checks to the SS beneficiary. Sometimes the checks are mailed to family members acting as guardians or caregivers, sometimes to a nursing home. SSDI did not specify what the second zip code was for! Norine as to where benefit checks are sent. 85031 area is about 5 miles west of 85004. I also found two "Homer THOMAS" in SSDI, one well northwest of town in Glendale who died in the '90's, and one in central Phoenix. The one in central Phoenix was born in 1911 and died in December 1979. His SSN was issued in Ohio. He is shown to have died in yet a different zip code; 85021. 85021 is on the western side of Central Avenue and about 5 miles north of 85004. All 3 zip codes if connected by a line form a tight triangle with each zip code being within about 5 miles of the other two zip codes. Therefore, I think it's fairly probable that this person might be the same "Homer THOMAS" in 1979 as the "Homer E. THOMAS" of 1975. Part of the reason I am of that opinion is that I looked back at my Phoenix city directories for 1955, 1957, 1959 and 1960 and there were no "Homer THOMAS" listed. A popular name was Howard, but not Homer. Also, the second zip code that might also be shown could be different than 85021, the zip code used when addressing SS checks for deliv! ery by USPS. Unfortunately, the SSDI does not list a second zip code. You might use the search engine at this board and read about Knowx.com and then do a lookup on the free side of the Knowx site to see if you get any hits for Norine or Homer. And you could always invest $27 and order a copy of the SS application from the SSA that this "Norine THOMAS" completed when she had moved to Arizona. Presumeably it will show her as unmarried and listed as a BARKALOW, or if married, hopefully listing her maiden name. Hope this gives you some research ideas. Glen F. Pritchett, USGENWEB volunteer
