Surnames: Garrett and George Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xU.2ADE/398 Message Board Post: My Grandparents, Lawrence Wm. George and Mary Adaline (Garrett) George, left Texas around 1913 and relocated in the Phoenix, AZ area, bring there first child Waldorff b TX 1912. My GF worked at the Chambers Trucking Co. in Phoenix. Their second son William D. George came 4/11/1914 and their third and last David Lloyd George 1918. I believe the family came to Phoenix because they had relatives (on the Garrett side) already living there. Around 1925 the George family relocated once more, this time to Pomona, CA where they remained until death. If you are researching this line or believe you may be related you are encouraged to reply. The closest to your time era is 1960, and then I have a few for 1960-1964 (Tempe/Mesa/Gilbert/Chandler), 1966 (Glendale) and 1968 (Scottsdale). Inorder for the directories to hopefully prove useful I have a few questions. Do you have an address on your birth certificate of the residence of your birth father? What about the birth mother? Do you know if they were living in central Phoenix, or north, west, south or east of central Phoenix? What hospital were you born in? Do you have any Phoenix area residence addresses OR phone numbers for anyone known to be familiar with your birth event in Phoenix who was living in Phoenix during that era? Do you have any clues as to who he was; given name, nickname, middle initial or name, occupation, employer, etc? Do you know anything about his parents, siblings, or other relations? Glen F. 1. [Maricopa] Ina THOMAS m. Orlando KINNAIRD
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: THOMAS, KINNAIRD, MOORE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xU.2ADE/393.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Sharon - I don't have public information beyond 1975, but I can make some suggestions following my review of 1975 resources. In my 1975 Phoenix Metro phone book, on page 169 is "Capri Nursing Home, 1501 E Orangewood Av 944-1574". You could check the web using Google.com and see if the nursing home is still in business and if so, you could contact them for any records that they might have archived regarding Ina THOMAS. According to Mapquest.com 1501 East Orangewood Avenue still exists in zip code 85020 which is an area in central northeastern Phoenix bounded by Central Avenue on the west, Glendale Avenue on the south, 20th and 24th Streets on the east and Cactus Road on the north. 85020 would be considered classically as Phoenix central. There is no listing in the 1975 metro book for "Ina THOMAS" so perhaps she arrived after the directory was published or was possibly living with a relation. There is, on page 638, one listing for "Moore Irene 4650 N 11Av 248-0484". There are also some additional "I Moore" listings which would make it near impossible to ascertain if this is your "Irene MOORE" from the phone book. However, if Capri Nursing Home has records indicating relations, beneficiaries, guardians or next of kin, perhaps that information would help to confirm if this "Irene MOORE" is your research subject. According to Mapquest.com 4650 North 11th Avenue is still there in zip code 85013. Zip code 85013 is next adjacent and "cattycorner" southwest of the area defined as zip code 85020. 85013 is bounded on the north by Glendale Avenue, to the west by 15th Avenue, to the south by Thomas Road and the east by Central Avenue. 85013 is northwest of central Phoenix, but is also classically considered Phoenix central. 85013 shares in common Glendale Avenue and Central Avenue with 85020. This suggests that given the location of where Ina THOMAS died, if this is! your "Irene MOORE", then in fact Irene MOORE was not far from Ina THOMAS. You might also try the SSDI and see if a Irene MOORE died in the boundaries of zip code 85013 and if Ina THOMAS died in zip code 85020. If Ina THOMAS was living with her daughter Irene MOORE at the time of her death or sometime prior, and further, if Ina THOMAS was having her SSI checks sent to her daughter, Ina THOMAS zip code for where benefit checks were being sent might show 85013 which would further point to Irene MOORE as being related. The 1975 directory only lists two KINNAIRD's. On page 539 is Earl L. and secondly Joe H., both living in Mesa at different addresses. In my 1964 Mesa/Tempe/Chandler/Gilbert city directory a Joesph H. is listed with his wife Betty E. Betty is a bookkeeper with a retail store and Joseph is as a foreman for a undecipherable business. They had one child under age 18 at home in 1964. The Earl L. KINNAIRD of 1975 might be the under age 18 child of Joseph H. and Betty E. KINNAIRD of 1964. I would suggest a few things. First I would use the search utility at this board and read the postings about Classmates.com and Knowx.com. Then I would visit both sites and see if any KINNAIRD's are listed that went to school in the Phoenix/Mesa area (try Earl first). Then I would go to Knowx.com and search on the free side of the site for any records that might exist regarding Ina THOMAS, Irene MOORE, KINNAIRD surname and the Capri Nursing Home. If you find some records that look promising you can consider using the pay side of site to buy what you might need. You would be surprised at the number of people and/or their relations that have been found using these two sites. Also, don't overlook Google.com wherein you enter the name of your research subject. You might be surprised to find the number of later generation descendants who have posted details about a ancestoral research subject to the internet. I'm sorry I don't have more currently dated public records that might be able to help you. Good luck. Glen F. Pritchett USGENWEB volunteer

Floyd served in the Navy as a torpedoman first class at Pearl Harbor during World War II. He spent many years in grocery retail in California. The family moved to Loveland in 1963. He and his wife, Vera, opened Loveland Discount Center in 1964. They retired in 1986 and moved to Arizona. Floyd and Vera were married for 58 years and lived in Leisure World in Mesa. He enjoyed playing golf every day. He will be sadly missed by many friends and family. Since his passing, so many have called and said, "I really respected your father. Your husband was a man of principle. He had such a great sense of humor. He was so strong and charismatic." Floyd loved his country and believed in defending it. He loved his family and believed in setting a high mark for them. His family continues in that legacy. As we reflect we can all say, "Floyd was truly a great man."
