    2. Mike Flannigan
    3. This is a test of the Rootsweb lists I am on. It is also some information for the list administrator if they feel the list is not running as expected. And finally it is an attempt to get something posted to the list so Rootsweb does not turn the list off. The list admin should probably go to this page: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ and try to set up a new mailman login, if not already done. If you do that you will probably get to this page eventually: https://mailinglists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/lists/setupmail Then you might want to sign up for this list: https://mailinglists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/search/Listowners But be warned, you will receive postings from that list almost every day.  May 8 a day at times. Another option that I do not encourage is to turn the list over to me - at least temporarily.  Again, I do not want that done if you are willing to keep the list. Mike Flannigan

    1. [AZ-GHOSTTOWNS] GNIS > Google Earth Maps
    2. Mike Flannigan via
    3. Here is a new website I just finished. It creates Google Earth Maps in the USA for features listed in the GNIS database (cemeteries, churches, schools, etc). If you are interested in that, the program is located here: http://www.mflan.com/cgi-bin/gnis.cgi This is an example of the output created. Camden county MO cemeteries: http://www.mflan.com/temp/camdencemeteries.kml You need Google Earth to view that file: http://www.google.com/earth/explore/products/ It is free. This is not fully tested. If you have problems with the program I would appreciate it if you told me about the problem. If you find it frustrating to get the information you need, or you want a bunch of counties put together, I recommend that you contact me directly to produce that for you. It doesn't take me long to do this and I'm glad to get the information out there. Just ask for it. Mike

    3. Thanks for doing that. Not sure about the pc-gateway posts. I don't follow those very closely. I am working on identifying ghost towns. MO is done. Just now doing KS. Then I may work on AZ. Most people probably are not aware that there typically as many or more ghost towns than real towns. In MO: 5,307 ghost towns 4,387 real towns Mike On 12/28/2014 2:01 AM, az-ghosttowns-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > I took the mail list back and am wondering how many of these emails on the > list are still good. > > I see that there was activity in November and that is good. > > What all are you looking for and what have you been talking about? > > Gail >

    2. Mike and others Oh, what a find. I have been in AZ since 1956 and never heard of this. Have been in several places of note but not this one. I did a search and #3 down on the first page is the only one I opened up and it was just great and tells much about where and about the site and with some pictures. There are many other sites about Two Guns but this one I feel could be the best and has history of the place. Enjoy, as I plan to spend some time here and let my political mail go begging this morning. Hi, new to the list.   I am writing to see if anyone has information on a place called "Two Guns" off of SR 40 between Coconino and Navajo County AZ.  The remains look like an old fort or a way station at the edge of the canyon with two circular armanents.  A little bit further on, there are ruins of a house, a saloon and possibly a jail.  The ruins can be seen off SR40 and old route 66 follows the road.  There is a old gas station and possibly a camping site formerly run by KOA.     We have recently retired in Navajo County.   Chlorine (sp) can be found in Mojave County.  Nice little town. A lot of slag heaps. Town is built over the mines.  Regards.

    1. [AZ-GHOSTTOWNS] Introduction of new administrator
    2. Dittmar, Frederick M.
    3. Greetings to all Arizona Ghost Town mail list subscribers. I'd like to first thank Kathleen Burnett for one starting the Ghost Town mail list for each state and your years as the administrator of this list. My name is Fred Dittmar and I am here to offer any help and direction I can. Although I'm not living in your state I may have some information to give you directions in researching. In order to stimulate my quiet lists I'm writing to ask some questions of you the subscribers. There are 46 subscribers on this mail list at the moment. No one on the list bites or says Boo to any questions or comments so feel free to write and talk with others. Where do you live? What Ghost Town or area are you interested in? What county was your Ghost Town located in? Are there any remnants left of the town? Foundations? Buildings? Cemeteries? Do you have any information about the time line of the town? Did it have a post office? If a cemetery is there is it currently maintained? Has it been surveyed and is it posted on the internet? What's the link? Do you know if the State has posted a Historic Sign or Marker noting the town or area? Please cite any sources (book, publication, family history) you find the information in. Thank you all. This is your mail list and it only works when you post and others answer and add to it. Fred - Mail List Administrator Frederick M. 3. Okay...here goes! I live in Coos Bay, Oregon. I have been researching Anna E. Durkee since 1979. It is a labor of love but it has been fun. Anna and company owned a garnet mine at Wrangell, Alaska where I lived for over 16 years. She was a noted mining woman as I was to learn over the years. Thanks to the internet and what has been posted I was able to track her to Chloride, AZ and her mining activity there. There were several key people from Arizona who worked in the mine or were consultants or had a connection to the mine. The name of the mine was Dardanelles Mining Company. Anna had incorporated the Dardanelles Mining Company and was in the process of reorganizing the company around the early 1920s into the Dardanelles Amalgamated Mines, Inc. These are some of the ones that Anna filed claims to in Arizona: Ludlow Fraction Mining Claim, Dawn Girl Mining Claim, Dawn Girl No. 2, Dawn Girl No. 3, Wild Cat Mining Claim, Wild Cat No. 2, Thumb Butte, Mitchell Extension Mining Claim, Comstock Mining Claim, Comstock No. 2 Mining Claim, Comstock No. 3 Mining Claim, Parrallell Mining Claim, Memphis Lode Mining Claim. All but the Memphis Lode were located in the San Francisco Mining District. The Memphis Lode was located in the Chloride Mining District. The link to the Arizona connection to Anna E Durkee is: http://www.designsbytrisha.com/garnetledge_dardanelles.htm If anyone has information on any of these mines I would appreciate hearing from you. I also have copies of the mining claims that were filed and would be glad to share those with you. I have not visited the area but would like to do so. I have not been able to find anyone interested in helping me find the mine location and arranging transportation to the site. Thanks! Trish Neal

    3. Total Wreck is in the Empire Mts. east of AZ 83, about nine miles south of Pantano and twenty miles northeast of Greaterville, in the vicinity of Kartchner Caverns. It's a ghost town now and supposedly, after John Dillon discovered the silver and lead mine, someone asked him what he planned to call it. He replied he didn't know, but the ledge the claim was on looked like a total wreck. Two years after Dillon's discovery in 1879, the Southern Pacific reached Pantano, and a seventy-ton mill was built at Total Wreck. By 1883, the population was 200 with four saloons, a barber shop, a lumberyard, three stores and three hotels. I got this info from Marshall Trimble's book, Roadside History of Arizona. A must have book!!! Hope this helps, but would love to see a copy of the article you have......Cherie On 12/13/06, mt view <mt_view2002@yahoo.com> wrote: > > Was wondering where, Total Wreck, A.T. would be I think it must be near or > on the Colorado River, found a article, where a man, came down the Colorado > River, from NV., he started down from the mouth of the Meadow Valley Wash, > if that helps, and then settled in Total Wreck.
