Found a note I'd made while looking in Largs Births. It shows this : Henry, lawfull son of Andrew COATES, Esq and Agnes Hamilton STIRLING his lawful Wife was born at Philadelphia, United States of America on the 24th day of December, 1859. The parents of the above Henry COATES now reside at No. 2 Ln? Bolce? Place, Glasgow. =============================== ??s are mine, am not sure of name of the street. Also....Agnes may possibly be Agnes HAMILTON, Stirling meaning Agnes HAMILTON was from Stirling. There is no punctuation to help me separate HAMILTON from STIRLING to understand which is the surname. The IGI has this birth as Henry COATES of Largs dated 24 December 1859 mother's name Agnes Hamilton STERLING [with an E], the original shows STIRLING. I suspect a problem developed with transcriptions as there was no place to put a different birthplace. The volunteer could only put Largs as that was the parish being done.
