Hi Lois, I have been onto Ancestry.com and see that there is a family tree under "Walton Family Tree" which is public viewing to ancestry subscribers. Noted is your Knox family with numerous photos of the family including your George along with dates of birth/death etc. and looks well sourced. I would be happy to send you a copy of the manifest or other details that you may need from Ancestry. Below is the information on the ship that they sailed on for their voyage to finalize in New West to be with Mrs. Knows' sons. Name: Agnes B Knox Gender: Female Age: 26 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1887 Birth Country: Scotland Date of Arrival: 23 Apr 1913 Vessel: Athenia Search Ship Database: View the 'Athenia' in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database Port of Arrival: St.John, New Brunswick Port of Departure: Glasgow, Scotland Roll: T-4828 All the best Linda Nordby Port Moody BC -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Lois Copping Sent: Tuesday, April 02, 2013 5:31 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [AYR] Help Please w/KNOX of Kilbirnie Hello Listers, My grandfather George Knox b. 1878 came to Canada in 1899 according to the 1901 Census for BC/Canada. His father also George Knox died in Kilbirnie in 1896 leaving his wife Mary Gillies Knox with a number of underage children. My grandfather was their eldest. This weekend I tried to find my great grandmother and the various children during the FREE weekend at Ancestry.uk. The only find suggests that Mary was possibly married at Kilbirnie to Hugh McWhinnie. Four known Knox children were found in the 1901 household along with an unknown Hugh Knox aged 8 and perhaps born 1893. I did not get to the 1911 Census. I know that I should try Scotlands People but I have no experience searching at that site. Is there anyone that could assist me with both Census details and the possible marriage to Hugh McWhinnie and also the child Hugh Knox possibly born to Mary and George Knox and possibly died before her emigration. With confirmation of these various events I could try to proceed and purchase the relevent copies. The other Knox children in 1901 were: John 26, Agnes Boyd 14, William 12 and Matthew 10. These children eventually all came to BC. I might have a passenger list showing Mrs. B Knox 56 and Agnes B Knox 26 travelling to New Westminster 'to sons' but the Ancestry, com copy sadly does not have details of date or ship name etc. Must do better next time I have access! >Notes from Bowell Index at New Westminster Library: > >MARY GILLIES KNOX: 482 Amess St., New Westminster B.C. > Born 13 Sept 1857 in > Kilbirnie, Scotland > Died 7 Sept 1935 at the age of 77-11-25 > Buried Ocean View Bur. Park > Plot 923 Gr. L. Fraser > Cause of death - jaundice > Rev. R. G. Jones > Dr. W. A. Robertson Many thanks for helping me and giving direction. This is a break through but not at all what I expected, Lois ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
