    1. [AYR] Ancestors emigrated to Argentina?
    2. George McCaig
    3. Hi all, If any of your ancestors emigrated to Argentina pre 1895 you will be in luck. My grandfather's brother George did so about 1887 and he was never heard from again. Part of that problem is my grandfather moved from Irvine to Johnstone, and he was the only surviving member of his family. I had a researcher in Buenos Aires (very reasonably) search the 1895 census for me. She found him and his family for me. Their census showed how long they had been married, and how many children they had, plus how many living. Armed with this I realized he had married before he emigrated so was able to search again and found his marriage in Renton, Dunbartonshire, and the births of his children in Scotland, none of whom survived. I then had the researcher search the Church of Scotland records in B.A. And she found five births in B.A. Those records showed the name and date of birth of the child, names of both parents, and a great help - the names of both sets of grandparents. Great to be assured you have the correct family. I had made many half-hearted attempts to trace him before I tried the researcher. Most satisfying to finally add his family to my tree. Unfortunately I was unable to get info after the 1900 birth as it would appear the may have changed their name, maybe from McCaig to Caig. Hope this gives someone else some hope if they have hit a brick wall. George M. McCaig, Burlington, Ontario. Sent from my iPad
