Ref to this thread: McKELVIE,MUIR http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ayr.general/13348.2/mb.ashx 2nd post refs the 1841 census for Riccarton, and in the household there is "Margaret Cowan female 1 b Ayrshire" I also believe it would be a good bet the father of John McKelvie (m. Agnes Muir McKelvie) would likely have been named "Francis." - He's married to this Cowan/Cowsa. In turn, I'm thinking, this Francis' father and mother may have been the John & Janet (Buntine) McKelvie's of Dundonald, Scotland. And in step with the 1st born son named after every other generation, my grandfather (J.Ward MacKelvie b. 1890, youngest of 5) - his oldest brother is John Robert McKelvie. So, looking at 1st sons born going backwards: John Robert McKelvie b.1876-1948 Francis McKelvie b. Ayr ~ 1840-1891 John (& Agnes) McKelvie b. Riccarton 1807-? (possible) Francis (& ? Cowan/Cowsa) McKelvie b. Dundonald 1779 (possible) John (Janet Buntine) McKelvie of Dundonald(?), Scotland. I still can't figure out if Thomas (Janet Muir) and John (Agnes Muir) were brothers though. I suspect there may have been more children of the John (Janet Buntine) McKelvie's and they maybe were cousins instead.
