Hi Debbie, The Mary Boyd who I am seeking information on was born C 1774 [calculated from age on death document]. She did not marry Stewart Murray Fullarton Her first child, Barbara Fullarton was born out of wedlock, but acknowledged by Stewart Murray Fullarton, later Laird; she married William Roxburgh in Renfrew in 1803, he was a ships carpenter. They had probably 6 children 4 of who survived into adulthood. She died in 1858 at Renfrew. I suspect that she was possibly a servant in the Fullarton household or perhaps her parents worked on the [Bartonholme] estate. I have not pinpointed a birth document on ScotlandsPeople but do have the birth record for Barbara Fullarton [which includes Stewart Murray Fullarton’s name] she is recorded as a “Natural Daughter”. I have copies of PP 199,200 and 202 of the Irvine Church Session minutes for May, July and October 1774 which records that Mary and Stewart were “...absolved from the scandal of the sin of fornication...” I could send you copies of the documents that I have if you wish. Peter In Mary Boyd/Roxburgh – I assume there is no mention of her parents name in the death certificate? With the Irvine Church Session minutes, is there any mention of Mary Boyd’s parents or where Mary might have lived? Deborah I just looked at my 1981 IGI for the Scotland but in the Mary Boyd’s I do not have the page that covers 1802-1822. As the Fullarton’s came from south of Irvine, so this Mary Boyd might have come from – Irvine Dreghorn or even Ayr town In 1794 how old was “Stewart Murray Fullarton”? And was he married or a “young” man. This might determine Mary’s year of birth. If a servant, she could have been a teenager – so born between 1773 or later. I know that the North Ayrshire Local Studies Library has the Old Parish Registers, so they might be able to help find Barbara Fullarton birth entry and to see what Mary Boyd is listed as and if there are any details about Mary’s parents Mike Boyd From: Deborah Rea Sent: Sunday, November 23, 2014 11:19 AM To: Mike Boyd Cc: Peter STRAUSS ; AYRSHIRE@rootsweb.com ; SCT-RENFREW@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [AYR] MARY BOYD m 794 Stewart Murray Fullarton Mike, Do you have any dates (birth/death) records for this Mary Boyd? Which says 6. MARY, said to have been married to Sir Alexander Maclean. *8 This Sir Alexander Maclean is a Cadet of the Maclean’s of Argyllshire and I have been trying for several years to find out if he and Mary had any children. I did find out in 2012, on a visit to Fort William, that he was one of King James’s Regiment commander in Ireland in 1689-90, but I have not yet found out what happened to him after 1690 when James was defeated at the Battle of the Boyne. 2) The second point is that – from the dates given – Mary was only 12 years old when she died, so it is very unlikely that if she died about 1677 that she would have been married and had a child at that age 3) Thirdly, the Earl and family appear to have been living at Badenhealth in Dumbatonshire – just west of Cumbernauld – during the 1660’s and 1670’s, as Dean Castle seems to have been used as a Military “Post” during the Covenanter period. 4) Mary Boyd, is one of the most common female Boyd names, so if this Mary Boyd died in about 1677 in KILMARNOCK, it could be that she is from a separate Boyd family. In the 1691 Health Tax list there is more than 30 Boyd families in Kilmarnock. And I expect that nearly every one of these families had a daughter called Mary Boyd. Oh, who do you have as this Mary Boyd’s husband.
