I am trying to find out more about Robert - whose occupation was mason. The towns you mention are all in the region of Ayrshire - if that is a help. Not terribly far away from each other. Ancestry now occasionally shows maps with census records from Scotland now which may help you see the lay of the land. My Robert Stevenson had a son Thomas born in 1818 - not sure how much I have on him but will check further if you're interested - or if you are still monitoring this board!
