This, the first year of government registration in Scotland, supplies a larger amount of information than in following years. Anne Campbell b 5 April 1855 at Mauchline, Ayrshire Your best bet would be to obtain the death registration for Matthew ( http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk) which should supply you with his parents' names. It seems possible that he is the son of Matthew & Agnes (Muir) Campbell, born in Mauchline in 1807. Below is a list of the recorded births for this couple. There is a son George. Thankyou Jo Ann, George was my GGG Grandfather. It's strange , on his daughter's death certificate, that is Ann Campbell my gg granny, she died in Melbourne, Victoria, it states her father was a Farmer, but I have since found out after many years of researching that he was a Harbour Waiter in Troon, Ayrshire. Such a quaint job ,but obviously very necessary in those times. He died in his 60's at Barrskimming. Ayrshire. His wife Marion lived with her daughter Margaret at Failford and died at 90 yrs of age.
