This is to advise Ayrshire list members that these Games will be held this weekend. So if you are in Northern California - or a little further away - and would like to see some Scottish Culture and sports go along. It is in a "rural" area just south of Sacramento. I visited these Games a few years ago and there were about 40-50 Clan tents, but I can't recall if there were any other Ayrshire Clans represented at these Games or not. If your Clan does not have a tent, I am sure the folk at the Boyd tent will welcome you and give you a chance to rest your feet and talk about Ayrshire history. The Boyds married into many of the other Ayrshire families - such as marrying the First Lord Montgomery, the First Lord Boyd granddaughter married the third Earl of Glencairn of the Cunningham family, while another granddaughter married John Muir of Rowallan in 1494 to name three connections I also know that we had connections to the Kerrs, Blairs, Crawfords, Campbells, Wallance, Fullarton and Kennedy's to name some other Clan linkages in Ayrshire Our President hosts this tent, and is quite knowledgeable about most thinks Scottish and she went to the Clans Gathering in 2009 at Edinburgh. Have an enjoyable weekend Mike Boyd Brisbane, Aust. -----Original Message----- From: Lauren Boyd McLachlan via Sent: Monday, April 20, 2015 12:00 PM To: Boyd List ; Clan Boyd (Scottish Clan list) Subject: [BOYD] House of Boyd to host tent at Sacramento Valley Caledonia Club Games in Woodland, CA this weekend -- Apro; 25th & 26th 2015 Confido! Dear Cousins: Come and join us at the games this next weekend, April 25th and 26th (Saturday and Sunday)! The first big one of the year, we will be getting back in the swing of things. You will find us in spaces 33 & 34 next to Clan MacLachlan, Clan Bell, SAMS and Mother Lode Scots. This is my 20th consecutive year (yes my Anniversary games!) hosting the tent at the Sacramento Valley Caledonian Club's Scottish Games and Festival In 1996 at my very first event, they were held in Roseville, California. Little did I realize that by 2009, I would be living in that same City. These games have been held in Woodland at the Yolo County Fairgrounds for so many years that they are referred to as "the Woodland Games" by those familiar with them.. Saturday night, the event has a ceilidh which is one of my favorites.GREAT music! You will also find some things going on in the campground. I'll not be camping as I live close enough to drive back and forth each night. oh...before I forget... I also wear another volunteer hat. I must run the Scottish Information Society meeting on Sunday morning at 10 at our tent. ( We are comprised of all the volunteers for the games. There is a delegate for each clan/society.) Read more about this 139th year event at http://sacramentoscotgames.org/ Great Entertainment: http://sacramentoscotgames.org/entertainers/entertainers/ http://sacramentoscotgames.org/schedule/fairgrounds-map/ I am looking forward to seeing all who can attend!
