    3. Greetings Listers Alexander BRODIE (c1760-1827), Ship's Carpenter, in 1819 of Kyles Hill, Saltcoats in Ayrshire is my 4 x ggf. Over the years I've been researching my Scottish ancestors (just back on it after a break), I've been unable to locate the birth and/or baptism of Alexander BRODIE. I have 6 children for him - Ann (1784), James (1786), Mary (1788), Isabel (1793), George Erskine (1796) and Margaret 1798. If I've got it correct, his wife was Mary ms SMITH. Supposedly they married before 1784, giving him a birth year of around 1760, give or take a bit. I have a birth and baptism year of 1761 for May. Alexander died in Saltcoats in Ayrshire on 30 May 1827 and Mary on 29 Dec 1829 aged 68. I have no age for Alexander. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? There were two other BRODIE men in Saltcoats in the 1790s (Andrew & Robert) but an article on the Internet seems to point to Renfrewshire being their home county. 3. Hello Pam, Have you considered that Alexander could have been born and baptized in Ireland? There was a lot of interaction between SW Scotland and Ireland and Brodie is an Irish name I think. Just a thought and we have not had much success searching for Irish ancestors - but we have had some! Cheers, Mary

    3. There were also a fair number of Brodies in Paisley at the time.
