She was born in Paisley, Scotland and emigrated to Michigan with her husband, John Marshall, in 1842. Her brother, David Speirs, lived in Paisley, Scotland and died on Aug. 22, 1873. John Marshall met Janet while working as a designer for David's weaving mill. I have a book written by Janet Speirs Marshall's grandson, Earl Pack Marshall, called 80 Years of Change which has some information about Janet and her brother, David. There is also a fair amount of information about the Marshall family in Almont and (later in Imlay City), Michigan during the 1800s. This books also has a little information that may be of interest to families with the surname of Hallock as two Marshall sisters (Elizabeth aka "Libby" and Janet aka "Nette"married two Hallock brothers (George Sterling and Edgar Charles). My husband's family are descendants of Libby (Marshall) and Edgar Charles Hallock. Would welcome collaboration with others researching the Speirs, Marshalls and/or Hallocks.
