    3. This is to advise members of all these lists that might live in the Vancouver, BC area (or near by) that I will be visiting Vancouver, BC on the above dates to look for Boyd family tree at your Central Library. I have been going nearly every years since 2004 to both Ireland and Scotland I am quite happy to put an hour aside on Saturday evening 29 August at 6.30 pm to talk to anyone who may wish to go to Scotland and Ireland for the first time about traveling there; how to start going your family tree (although I assume if you are on these lists you are well past that stage) and some of the research facilities that are available in both Scotland and Ireland, especially Northern Ireland. If you have any Boyd – both male and female – in your tree I would like to be able to collect those trees form you as well, so I can add it to the 760 other Boyd Family Chapters in the Clan Boyd Pyramid. In 1993 I completed Volume 1 of Clan Boyd of Scotland and have filled a further 10 Volumes which I have to get time to edit. I will be staying at the Sandman, 180 West Georgia, Vancouver - so lets hope there is some space that we can meet near reception. Thank you Mike Boyd Chairman Historical Committee House of Boyd Society Brisbane, Aust.

    3. Hi Mike, I am still working on 'our/Bruce Shields/Ann Frew Wyllie*'s Boyd families and am hoping to get you something for when you will be meeting my cousin Rosemary Cryer on Thursday. Have you heard about the Boyds of Swepston? I can't remember if Bruce or even Ken Cuthbertson (of New Mexico, USA) sent it to me - or even you; the Alexander Boyd (16 August 1743 Irvine, d. 11 August 1801 Boydton, Mecklenburg County, Virginia, USA) it talks about is related to us. I've included it here - perhaps Rosemary can print it out for you? It's still a work in progress document. Ann doesn't use a laptop or anything hence now email address for her. 3. Hi Mike, Have you ever heard of a little booklet called The People of Sixteenth Century Ayrshire by Margaret H.B. Sanderson? It was put together by the Ayrshire Archaeological and Natural History Society and was based on the Buchan Lecture of 1985. It was sponsored by The Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and delivered to The Ayrshire Federation of Historical Societies by Margaret. I have tried to get additional copies but to no avail. The book is really helpful as Margaret researched different parishes in Ayrshire in the 16th C. and informs the reader where each (important) person was actually living. For example, within the Parish of Kilmarnock Alexander Boyd was shown living at East Craig while Archibald Boyd lived at West Craig. It shows James Auchinloss (Assloss) as living at Assloss with James Fyar and James Smith. A Widow Boyd lived at Dalsraith and a Janet Boyd was at Little Dean. I don't know what the laws are about copying this, however it's no longer in print. It's small enough that sending you copies wouldn't be too much trouble - as long as we keep quiet!
