He married Agnes Johnson and in the 1871 census they were living in Kilmarnock with their daughter Mary born around 1867. They were still living in Kilmarnock in the 1881 census. Agnes had died after 1876 and David was married to someone named Margaret. Their children were Mary, John, Alexander and Margaret. It is thought that John immigrated to the United States.
