But they have to be related somehow. They were Farmers and not tenant farmers either. Some of the Ronalds owned Bennels farm which at its peak was about 200 acres. It stayed in the family until 1885 according to the author of the biography of Robert Burns. This thick book I've had for 20 years and never getting round to reading it. Ronalds were more prosperous than the Burns and apparently Burns wanted to court Wiliam Ronald's (b abt 1725) daughter Anne but would not approach her for fear of being rebuffed because of the class differences.
