Chris, Perhaps the writing wasn't clear. The pit was actually Bankhead. It closed many years ago and the pit houses were demolished. Bankhead was near Auldhouseburn. Auldhouseburn Farm still exists. James Taylor has an excellent website about Muirkirk. There are also mining websites which give information about the village. Not sure if 'Sornweb' still exists but it also has lots of info on the Muirkirk area. Janet
