I have spent years looking for pre-1798 GIBSONs but with no luck. I have maternal lines though. My most fascinating family history discovery involved the illegitimate birth of Margaret GIBSON's father. His mother was a farmer's daughter. The putative father vigourously denied paternity and I have eight pages of witness statements from Kirkoswald Kirksessions. They are delightful glimpses into the minutiae of Kirkoswald life 200 yrs ago. I live in Lincolnshire, England, but lived near Glasgow as a child. I visited Ayrshire a year ago and sought out villages and dwellings of these forebears, including the St Quivox of Margaret and Robert McKELVIE. I have a photo or two which I will also send you.
