She had a rare simplicity of manner, sound practical sense and a candor which charmed by its naturalness. Her evenly-balanced mind and fine sense of general justice directed and gave to the moral goodness which formed the base of her character a beautiful consistency. It is thought her constant and unremitting attention to her husband during his illness some two years since, may have laid the seeds of the malady under which she succumbed [stomach cancer]. She suffered comparatively little and passed peacefully away. Pallbearers: Messrs Thomas Russell, C Chambers, Cowper, Rendall, Horton, Cameron.
