I had just started researching this family and got stuck on Gordon Murray, used a new search engine and found this thread! My husband's ancestors are Gordon Murray and Ann Dempster through their daughter Janet who married John McClain. I had found a Gordon in the 1851 census, but wasn't sure it was the right one since Janet was not in the household. I did find a Janet Murray of the approximate age working as a servant and also one as a scholar in the home of her grandparents, but have not established if one of these is the correct Janet. Also didn't find anything in 1841, but now I know why. Is the information you posted from your family or someone else's database? I would love to find out more about this family. I haven't entered what I have found yet in my database so what I can give you is in a more informal form. Janet (sometimes called Jane)Murray married John McLean in Dalmellington Parish, Ayr 21 Jan 1855. He was 25, a miner, born in Longhill? (his subsequent records say Ireland), residence Craigmark, Dalmellington. His parents Francis McLean, farmer, deceased and Mary McGarry McLean. Janet was 19, residence Dalmellington and a servant. Her parents listed as Gordon Murray, miner and Ann Dempster Murray. They were married by a Roman Catholic clergyman. Janet and John McLean's daughter Grace was born 18 May 1875 in Clippens Square, Parish of Kilbarchen, Renfrew. I found this family in the 1861 and 1881 census records, but not in the 1871 census. In 1861 the family is in Whitburn, West Lothian and John is an ironstone miner. In 1881 they are back in Kilbarchen where John is a coal miner. In 1882 John McLean, Janet, children Ann, John, Jennie, May and Grace emigrated to Westmoreland County Pennsylvania. Older children Alexander and Francis emigrated on a different ship the same year. Grace McLean, whose name had become McClain, married John J. McDonald, also an emigrant, from Shotts Iron Works, Lanarkshire, Scotland, in Westmoreland County PA. These two people are my husband's great-grandparents. Hope to hear from you as I would like to know more about his family. Thanks for posting all that information.
