    3. Hello Chris, I went to FamilySearch and sought the marriage of Isobel Wallace and found this event which is an extracted event and you therefore might learn something from the parish entry. > >ISOBEL WALLACE > >Marriages: > Spouse: ARNOT > Marriage: 1777 Kirknewton And East Calder, Midlothian, Scotland > > > Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type: > > M116905 1773 - 1792 1067763 I have note of 7 children to your Thomas Arnot and Isobel Wallace from 1777 - 1797. The first two males were named Joseph and William. I would consider the possibility that Joseph was named after Isobel's father: >ISABEL WALLACE >Event(s): > >Christening: >05 JUN 1757 Ratho, Midlothian, Scotland > >Parents: > Father: JOSEPH WALLACE > Mother: MARGARET GILLONE FYI there is also a Poor Law entry dated 4 Mar 1861 for Joseph Mackie Arnot which I found somewhere at one time on the internet. Poor Law can give you a lot of information and there could be more than one application. Kilbirnie Parish Council Record of Applications, 1859-1862 CO3/41/25 Surname Forename(s) Age County of Birth Occupation Residence Year of Application Dependents: Arnot Joseph Mackie 81 Beith Farm Servant, Labourer, Vagrant Montgomerystone 1861 None There may have been more than one application as I also have this information claiming his was disabled. #429 widower/aged 81/farm servant & labr/wholly disabled b. Beith I have always been interested in this Beith family of ARNOT. My Esther Arnot b. 1761 Polmont/Stirling married Matthew MACKIE in 1782 at Dalry/Ayrshire. This Mackie family were at Dalry for generations. Esther's father Archibald was born in West Lothian and her mother was born in Mid Lothian and they married in Stirling. Esther's father worked for the Earl of Glasgow at Kelburne and latterly Blair of C. Worth considering is the fact that your Thomas Arnot was likely born 1757 or earlier and my Archibald had a younger brother named Thomas born 1749/50 Bathgate/West Lothian. I hope this data assists you in your search. If you find any connection to my Arnot I would be happy to hear, Lois
