And I don't like the sound of that. A possibility is a Jean Aitken born to a Hugh Aitken/Jean McClanachan 4 May 1812 Sorn, with no other children mentioned on the IGI. As James was born in 1814 it sounds more compatible, but like a lot of these assumptions we might never find out. I trawled through all the Aitkens in the IGI with reference to the ages you provided from the 1841 census without any clear possibility.
