    3. Thanks to Mike and Nyle for their replies. No, Mike, coal miners couldn't afford to have servants at home. And there were no Aitken children except for Anthony. Nyle, the details of Anthony's birth were from ScotlandsPeople. If we take the 1841 census given age of Jean then she would have only been 14 when Anthony was born. And I don't like the sound of that. A possibility is a Jean Aitken born to a Hugh Aitken/Jean McClanachan 4 May 1812 Sorn, with no other children mentioned on the IGI. As James was born in 1814 it sounds more compatible, but like a lot of these assumptions we might never find out. I trawled through all the Aitkens in the IGI with reference to the ages you provided from the 1841 census without any clear possibility. That is why I'm hoping for an Aitken researcher to piece the jigsaw together. Son Anthony went on to bring up 11 children.
