Hi folks After seeing that my message ( John Arnot born 1797 Ayrshire?...) put up on the Ayrshire message board on rootsweb is gatewayed to this list I decided the best thing to do was join the list. Firstly my apologies for my careless spelling of Ayrshire in that message (I hit the 'e' instead of the 'r' and missed it out altogether in the subject heading). Secondly, what a great wealth of information the members of this list have put together to share with everyone. Thank you all for this. I have just taken up pursuing my Arnot(t) branch after a 10 month pause ( spent searching for my Nolans, Walshes and Kellys in Ireland!) as I had hit a brick wall. I had overlooked My GGGrandfather (John Arnots) place of birth being Ayrshire, Beath on his 1851 census. So focused was I on the Stirlingshire /Dunbarton area which is where his wife and her family came from and where all their children were born. Also just the one 't' is his name confused me,as his son (James ,my GGrandf) is recorded as Arnott in his marriage cert and in the subsequent census and death cert. James birth parish records have him with only one 't' though. Does anyone know why the extra 't' was added to the name Arnot? Hoping someone out there is connected to this John Arnot from Ayrshire.
