    1. Re: [AYR] "Robert Boyd, Corchan."

    3. David This is a 1688 Spelling. So I have no idea what the word may be spelt today. I have checked the spelling again and it is COROCHAN. There were Boyds from Paisley over quite a long period but I am not yet sure how they fit into the Boyds form Ayrshire. There were Boyds from GAVAN AND RYSK which I had assumed for many years was Govan, a few miles downstream from Glasgow. However, last year I found on the map, about 3 kms east of Lockwinnock and on the east side of the A737 road a farm called Risk and two other farms called Mid Gaven and East Gaven. These three farms are on the west side of Howwood. I assume your Cochran is located NE of Howwood (which is off the Landranger Map 63). Thank you. I will make a note of this in that family chapter that this Robert Boyd MIGHT BE LINKED to the Boyds of Gavan and Rysk. Mike, Could 'CORCHAN' be a mis-spelling of 'COCHRAN?' The Cochrans were kindred of the Ayrshire Montgomery family and they had a castle and large estate in south Renfrewshire, on the borders of Paisley parish and Lochwinnoch parish. David.
