Sometimes surnames from previous generations are used as middle names down the line just as first names are passed down through the generations. For example Elizabeth Blythe Loggie, a.k.a. Elizabeth Allison Blythe, where Blythe is her maiden name and father's surname and Allison if I recall correctly was her mother's maiden name. Also, Jean Goldie Loggie, a.k.a. just plain Jean Loggie, and then later Jean Stewart sometimes has her first name spelled Jane instead.
