Cecilia asked about a Thomas McCANDLISH who emigrated to USA.I have a Thomas McCANDLISH who married Peggy McLACHLAN in 1882 at Lochwinnoch in RFW. His parents were William McCANDLISH & Jane HAMILTON who were both deceased by 1882.In 1881 census he was stated to have been born Minagaff (sic) KKD.In 1901 Census Thomas' place of birth was stated to be Newton Stewart KKD (Kirkcudbright). At that time the County was KKD but I think it then became part of South Ayrshire.I know very little about this Thomas but thought his place of birth may be of interest to you if you are looking for earlier information. He lived and worked around Skelmorlie & Largs in AYR where he died in 1919. Anne Maye  

No Minnigaff remains in Kirkcudbrightshire. It has Ayrshire's Straiton, Barr and Colmonell on its northern border and Wigtownshire's Penninghame on the western border.
