I saw a posting that you did maybe 10 years ago, and hoped that we could connect. I would love any information that you would have on John Barnes and Elizabeth Candlish. We always had a sneaky suspicion that we were headed in the wrong direction as we had Annie Gourlay as Joseph's mother and no other information on her. Being a relative of Samuel, are you still in Scotland than? We are in Utah, that is where John, Joseph's son immigrated to. In fact, my husband is named John Barnes, after his ggrandfather, John Barnes of 1870. We would love to make a trip to Scotland in the next year or so, however, it would be great to spend time seeing the countryside and meeting the relatives instead of keeping our noses in books looking for ancestors. Thank goodness for scotlandspeople.gov.uk. It has been worth the money to me to see the actual records, and especially to find out that Josephs mother was Elizabeth and not Annie Gourlay. !
