I am trying to trace the family of John Stinson/Stevenson who married Agnes Carsell/Carswell on 10th August 1761 in Stewarton, Ayr. Their scanned parish register entry for the marriage is of poor quality but they are listed on Scotland's People and the IGI as John Stinson and Agnes Carsell. John is listed as being of Whit... They are both listed as being "of this parish". The IGI lists them as John Stevenson and Agness Carswell for the baptisms of their children: - Thomas Stevenson, Christening: 15 JUL 1762 Stewarton, Ayr - John Stevenson, Christening: 15 JUN 1764 Stewarton, Ayr - Robert Stevenson, Christening: 15 NOV 1767 Stewarton, Ayr - Margaret Stevenson, Born C1762 Stewarton, Ayr (1851 census); Christening: 11 FEB 1770 Stewarton, Ayr; married John Dunlop 10 May 1808 Stewarton, Ayr - Agness Stevenson, Christening: 12 JUL 1771 Stewarton, Ayr - Agness Stevenson, Christening: 12 JUL 1772 Stewarton, Ayr - Mary Stevenson, born 1774 Stewarton Ayr (1841 census); Christening: 27 MAR 1774 Stewarton, Ayr; died 1841 - 1851; married William Aitchison 10 Mar 1797 Glasgow Lanark. I was able to find the baptisms of Margaret & Mary on Scotland's People. The image of the baptism entry reads "John Stnison of Wit[lie?] and Agness Carsell.." and Mary's entry reads "John Stinson portioner in Whit[lie?] [half cut off word ending in d] Agness Carsell." Can anyone help me with where or what Whitlie is? I'm assuming that this might be the property owned by John. I can't find any likely births for either John or Agnes under either surname so would appreciate assistance with these. Would also love to hear from anyone else connected with this family Regards, Andrea Fitzgerald In Melbourne, Australia
