So does anyone know if such books might have been published? I got a list of some 86 Boyd form this book. 3. No Murray I found it at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow. I assume that the Scottish Record society series is available in other Libraries - such as National Library of Scotland on King George IV Bridge or the Edinburgh City Library also on King George IV Bridge But it was not until this morning when I was doing another job, that I realised that I have not followed up looking if there were any other records on the Glasgow Burgesses. I will have to now write some articles for our quarterly magazine to advertise these 86 Boyds. So if you contact the Mitchell Library, Glasgow, they might do a look up for you. Although now thinking, someone on the Boyd net list about two months ago did post the Glagow Boyd Burgesses - so it might be available online. 3. Data cannot be copyrighted. It's the images that are copyrighted. You can legally post all the info from the page. I have done it in the past. I put all the surnames in the subject line and then transcribe the data in the body. 3. Good morning, I have recently downloaded a few births, deaths and marriages from Scotlands People. The OPRs come as a page which include mine and perhaps five or six others – do I breach their copyright if I post the other names on the page to the List? Kind regards Maggie Grant

    3. My ancestry is confirmed back to William and Mary who had children between 1775 and 1790, all born in Lochwinnoch. After extensive research on a number of genealogy site, who William and Mary are remains a mystery. I did find a Mary McDowall (1748) connected to Ayr which is the right time frame. I am curious if "my" William and Mary may have both come from Ayrshire. Thanks for any suggestions/help in the foregoing regard! Duncan Sutherland Williamsburg, VA

    3. Hi Ann, I wonder if the 28 DEC 1780 was his actual birth date. Have you tried downloading the image from Scotlandspeople? I suspect that it will mention the dates of both birth and baptism in the register entry. It will give the names of his parents, and possibly also the residence. It will likely also specify if he was a lawful or natural child. 1. [AYR] William Dick and Deborah Wells/Walls also Begg and Howatson New Cumnock/Muirkirk

    3. Hi Folks, William Dick and Deborah Wells are the parents of my GGrandmother Deborah Kerr nee Dick born 1834 New Cumnock Parish. My ggrandmoither married George Kerr in 1859 at the "House Of Water"( her father William already deceased) and by 1862 they were on their way to Australia and by 1870 when my grandfather also George was born they had settled in New Zealand. Apart from 2 possible birth records that I can't verify I have been unable to find birth ,marriage or death records for William Dick and Deborah Wells, having searched ScotlandsPeople, FamilySearch, FindmyPast and the Library edition of Ancestry. On the website AyrshireRoots I was very fortunate to find 6 of their children births between Muirkirk and New Cumnock and with mother Deborahs name spelt either Walls or Wells. I have found the family in the 1841 census in Muirkirk where William is a Labourer, in 1851 he has a farm of 35 acres (perhaps House of Water since that is where his daughter Deborah was married in 1859) in the New Cumnock area and in 1861 census Deborah is a Widow living at Blackfarden (a small farm perhaps, I've googled it without success) working as a Bower ( a maid). There was a 13-15 year age gap between William and Deborah and I have found 2 births that might be theirs . William Dick born 1797, Sorn, Ayrshire, to James Dick and Margaret Lennox and a Deborah Wells born March 1810 New Cumnock to James Wells and Deborah Kerr. Unfortunately neither of these mothers have the maiden names that 2 of this couples daughters were given, still I am wondering if anyone out there might be connected and know if these births are the correct ones. Another angle I have taken is to search for info on my GGrandmother Deborahs siblings. Deborah was the eldest born in 1834, then in June 1837 her sister Elizabeth Howatson was born and the next sister Margaret Begg was born in Dec 1839. In the 1851 census Margaret Begg Dick is staying with a Margaret Begg ,(Innkeeper in Muirkirk, widow), and recorded as her granddaughter. I have found a birth in 1774 which might be this Innkeeper Margaret Begg but not a marriage or death record for her so have been unable to go further with this. For Elizabeth Howatson Dick, thinking that Howatson might be the surname of either William Dick or Deborah Wells mother or grandmother I have been unable to find any Dick/Howatson marriages or Wells/Howatrson marriages to support this theory. I have found Elizabeths marriage to William Millar in New Cumnock in 1867, their family in the 1881 census , their daughter Elizabeth marriage to James Millar in 1897 and this family in the 1901 census had a 2 year old daughter named Elizabeth Howatson Dick Millar!!! I would think that the Howatson surname must be a family link if they are continuing to use it. Does anybody have suggestions for how I may go ahead with my search, the hopeful goals being to find living 3rd or 4th cousins and also to be able to continue going backwards and discovering new generations of ancestors. :) Many thanks Chris in NZ

    3. Hi Chris, Have you thought about doing your DNA, I have discovered many 3rd and 4th cousins that way. Also, Howatson may have been a family friend's surname, so there may be no biological connection. One of my friends searched on the Grey surname for a number of years, and was frustrated when she got back to Scotland. Apparently, a daughter of one of her lines must of found herself pregnant, and left Scotland. The Grey surname has gone through many descendants in Canada and the US, but my friend came to the conclusion that her family member must of changed her surname when she reached Canada, as she could't trace any Greys in her family in Scotland. About 4 generations later, some of the family names started to creep back in, and she was able to figure the family out, she had been a Robertson. Then there is my father, the youngest of 5 children. He ended up being called Thomas Alexander Stewart as his forenames. For the longest time no one knew where the Stewart name came from, as it had never been used in the family, in Canada and Scotland. My now deceased Aunt thought it was a Dr. Stewart that delivered all the children in the family. Dr.Stewart practiced in Toronto apparently, and my grandparents lived just east of Hamilton, Ontario. Hopefully, I can find it!
