Mike, I owe you many thanks. Youtube have the whole programme that was done with Prince Charles a few years ago. I have only watched the first few minutes but my appetite is well and truly whetted.. I had of course googled DF numerous times but nearly all of it was to do with visiting times or the glories of the Chippendale furniture. Actually we were set to spend a few days in Scotland next month but some health problems cropped up and now we are limiting our visit to London, the city to which all my Scottish ancestors eventually gravitated in the early 19th century.In fact there should be a plaque erected for them at Kings Cross! Nick About 2 or 3 years ago on Australian TV, there was an hour program on how Prince Charles saved this part of Scottish History and restored it. It is being run as a "training centre" to help the youth of Cumnock to grain employment and to help run the house as a tourist attraction. Others might be able to tell you the name of the program, so you can search online to get program on TV. While I have been to Cumnock a few time, you will enjoy it. If you take out the cars and TV ariels you could pick any century you like. But it sounds like you still have a little bit of work to do before you go. I have just asked this NC company, if they also sell the same Boyd Tartan material in rolls of cloth (and I will advise you when they reply). It appear that postage worldwide is free. While the cost for the cloth with the motto is about 65 US dollars and the plain cloth is about 62 dollars I am not too sure how this may compare with any other Company offering such products. However, if no one else is offer such Boyd Tartan tablecloths, – at present – I would only pick the plain version, until such time as they fix the motto Badge, which might be very good for your thanks giving dinner, Christmas, birthdays or any other Boyd family gathering. If you know of any other company that supplies similar Boyd products please advise the net list Hopefully at Stone Mountain, GA., I can find a suitable vendor with Boyd Tartan cloth or with Boyd Tartan tablecloths. Thanks , A wonderful tool for those of us digging into Old Cumnock of the late 18th.century. Though I found no Dalrymples what i did find was a vintner, John Swan, buried in 1796. My ancestor was the first cook at the newly built Dumfries House c.1756 but later became a vintner in Edinburgh c.1780 and I like to think that possibly he was introduced to the trade by John Swan. I doubt if a small community such as Old Cumnock ran to more than a single vintner establishment though I would liked to be corrected if I am wrong. While Cumnock is not a traditional Boyd area, I would not be at all surprised to find one or two Boyds in your history or buried at Cumnock. In 2006 to 2008, When the East Ayrshire Local Studies was at New Cumnock, I found out that Provost Boyd who had recently retired from the Council, lived a few streets away from their centre. Hi Mary, Perhaps we have common ancestors :-). Going from MacSporran to Pursell is quite a jump with a name, that would have taken some good detecting work on your part. I hope you have success with the Cumnock and Doon Valley Monumental Inscriptions website. It has crossed my mind that with Mary being born in Lockerbie which is very close to the border with England this could be the reason for her surname being Nelson rather than McNeil. My Ggrandfather George Kerr or whoever filled in his marriage cert seems to have preferred the name McNeil over Nelson or Neilson when his mother's maiden name was recorded in his Marriage Cert as McNeil. I wonder if at the time in the 1850's in the New Cumnock area there was a move to "reclaim" their Scottish Identity by going back to using the Scottish form of their surname rather than the Anglicised version.
