Unsucessfully, I might add. So far I have found John Walker 1805 -1857 born 25 JUL 1805 in Riccarton (now part of Kilmarnock) to Alexander Walker and Elizabeth Gemmell who married in Riccarton on 11 May 1804. But I cannot see any other children. John married Elizabeth Purvis in Riccarton on 19 NOV 1833. They are in 1841 and 1851 census in Kilmarnock with children Margaret, Alexander, Robert and Elizabeth. You don't give a name for your ancestor. Always best to start with what you know! Good luck. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. However on scotlandlspeople there is a marriage in 1911 in Ayr for Donald Hogg and Margaret Alexander. You need to get credits for £6 and access the marriage record which will give you their parents. Then search for births for Hogg in Ayr or wherever else you think they might have lived. You can get up to 25 results per search for the same payment, so don't type in "john". 3. Hello Cecilia, There is a birth of a Thomas McCandlish in the BVRIv2 that appears to fit your Thomas, son of Thomas. From the BVRIv2.. KIRK, Jean Gender: Female Birth Date: 22 Jun 1779 Birthplace: Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland Recorded in: Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland Father: John KIRK Source: FHL Film 1068241 Dates: 1776 - 1830 There was no mother's name as part of this transcribed record.
