    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: awhitefo1 Surnames: Wyllie, Kerr Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ayr.general/6399.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Lovely to hear from you. I don't know a great deal about this side of the family, other than that Margaret Wyl(l)ie was my gg grandmother, Jean Wyllie's, sister. I have a copy of a newspaper article noting the family lived at Caddel Park Ardrossan. I found them at Caddle Farm Ardrossan on the 1841 Census. Margaret was not there then as she would I assume have been married at that stage. Jean was born in 1821 and didn't get married until 1849. I have Thomas Wyllies inventory following his death in 1846 if you would be interested in a copy of that. I'm planning to spend several weeks probably next year in Scotland wandering through various archives. I'm keen to find out details of their farms etc. Do you have details of Margaret's parents and other siblings? Look forward to hearing back from you. We don't know if Hugh and Janet had a Quintin or perhaps Hugh was married before and had a Quintin. There are no marriage records for Riccarton to confirm when Hugh and Janet marrried. The names of Quintin's children are very similar to that of Hugh and Janet. There is also other Clarks - on freecen 1841 who were shoemakers Ayr, Beith, Kilmarnock etc A Quintin Clark born 1803 Ayr to David Clark and Mary Shankland Thomas Clark and Martha Anderson in Kilmarnock. Thomas died before 1851. I also found I had indirect links to the Templetons through my Riccarton Kelly family - James Kelly sister of my Jean Kelly married Mary Templeton. The Kelly's also married into the Riccarton Muir's - John Muir and Mary Templeton Regards Angela C Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Children listed are: John b. Author: Cathy_Silver Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ayr.general/14018.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My information shows that Mary was married to William Leggate and in 1881 they lived in the registration district of Holytown, civil parish of Bothwell and their addresswas Baleside Hamlet. On the census her name is Mary Fegan, but in my family history she was Mary Wallace, married Thomson, then Miller before Leggate. This sounds reasonable as their son William lived in Hamilton and married a Catherine Colquhoun. They resided at 54 Townhead St until their deaths in 1925 (William) and 1931 ( Catherine) Does this help? Looking forward to hearing back from you. 3. Hello I am searching for info on my great great grandfather Peter Hawkins.  This is all I know about him, from all sources I have searched and from his children's certificates. 1)  Born about 1823 2)  Born at Ayr 3)  Came to New South Wales before 1849. 4)  Possibly came with family (see brother William below) 5)  Married Susan Jones in Bathurst NSW on 30.10.1849. 6)  Was Presbyterian 7)  Had nine children over the next 15 years. 8)  Worked as a carpenter (was also a farmer and a publican) 9)  A William Hawkins had a daughter, Jane, at the same residence as Peter, named The Rocks, Bathurst, in 1865.  Possibly a brother 10) No death certificate.  Listed in Electoral Rolls until mid-1880s. I'm wondering if someone could please look up parish registers for Ayr for 1820-1830 to see if there is a birth of Peter or William or other evidence of this family? I would like to write to Ayr, if there are any kind researchers there, by airmail with stamps, as this would give me something from Ayr, and I have not had much luck with online transactions.  Thank you Richard Hawkins gerard_drew@yahoo.com

    3. Hi Listers, My thanks to Ken Cuthbertson for giving me the opportunity to take a stab at transcribing these records. The pages are in poor shape, darkening to quite black in places, and missing the edges on many, but much useful information is still readable, albeit in that old style of writing, "secretary hand" with some old Scottish terms and occasionally in Latin. As always I want to encourage any sharing of ideas you might have on this.
