It has been suggested to me that "Tarrinzean" MIGHT BE Torranyard which is on the west side of the A736 and about 6 kms east of Kilwinning, about 5 kms NE of Irvine and about 5 kms NW of Kilmaurs. This points it in the middle of the Montgomery lands, as I understand them. So are there any Montgomery researchers who may have seen this name in their family? It is only about 2 kms west of Bonshaw. So it may have been part of the Boyds of Bonshaw's holding. This Cadet Branch is first mentioned about 1500. Does anyone have access to Pont to confirm this please? Hi Mike, This notation for "John Ramsay, 1st Lord Bothwell" Spelling slightly different from your message regarding Tarrinzean, Cheers, Linda "Under James IV he was allowed to return to Scotland in 1496 and was rehabilitated on 8 April 1497 under the Great Seal, although not restored to his peerage or some of his former titles. He had different grants of the lands of Tealing and Polgavie in Fife, Trarinzeane near Cumnock in Ayrshire and half the lands of Kirkandrews in Wigtownshire. He took the title of Sir John Ramsay of Trarinzeane. On 13 May 1498 he had a charter of a tenement in the Cowgate, Edinburgh and another of lands in Forrester's Wynd on 6 November 1500. He died on 9 September 1513 at Flodden Field, killed in action." -----Original Message----- From: ayrshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ayrshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mike Boyd Sent: Thursday, August 05, 2010 11:29 PM To: Sandra T. I had nothing come up for Tarrinzean, but for Risedalemure, I found Duisdalemore, Scotland on the A851 with a small beach beside it. It seems to be almost on a peninsula. Lots of farmland around. Also looked for Turnberry and it is south of Ayr (town) and north of Girvan in Ayrshire, Scotland. When Thomas Boyd, the son of Robert Boyd, first Lord Boyd, married Princess Mary Stewart and on, 26 April 1467, "four charters being simultaneously granted to Thomas, Master of Boyd, the designed Earl, and Mary, his wife. (Reg. Mag. Sig., i. Nos. 912-915.) The first of these conveyed the isle of Arran, within the sheriffdom of Bute, the second the lands of Stewartoun, Tarrinzean, Turnberry, and Risedalemure, in Ayrshire, and Meikle Cumrey, in Bute;" It is the names of the second charter that I would like to find out where they were located. (i) So would "Stewartoun" mean Stewarton about 9 kms north of Kilmarnock; (ii) So where might "Tarrinzean" Ayrshire have been? And/or what might it be called today? (iii) So would "Turnberry" be the Tumberry between Girvan and Maybole? From my limited knowledge this is in the Kennedy Lands area. (iv) So where might "Risedalemure" Ayrshire have been? And/or what might it be called today? (v) "Meikle Cumrey", in Bute, would this be either Little Cumbrae Island or Great Cumbrae Island? Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

I wonder if anyone familiar with the Tarlbolton Rd on the list could help me.When i was a small boy i used to visit my Grandmother Hannah Smith nee Henderson with my Mum.I remember getting off the bus at Symmington ,Bogend ,Tarlbolton Rd .Turning left off the main and following this Rd for quite long way to her house perhaps an hours walk. She lived with her family in a cottage attached to a church, could have been Dankeith Church,i remember it had a long driveway and a steeple. Now in spite of studying every inch of all roads in the right direction on Google street i am unable to find it.although i do recognize some things eg the convent which we passed. This is most disappointing as I'm sure the church would have been old enough to be protected. If you could help it would be brilliant because my wife has a great interest in my past life which was so different from her past in a thatched cottage in Dorset.
