On 30 June 1843 at Kilmarnock William Wilson of High Street and Rosa Riley of Boyd Street after proclamation --- marriage. Rosa Riley's p[lace of birth was Kilmarnock Their first son Wlliam born 1845 married Mary Walker daughter of Gordon Walker(a print Blocker) and Mary Gibb on 24th Jan 1868 at Riccarton. William and Mary's daughters were Rosina and Jessie twins b.9 Jan 1871 Mary b. 1873 b. Kilmarnock then Maggie b.1881 Lizzie b.1883 Mina b.1888 Jeanie b.1890 born Govan so I think they moved to Govan 1880, well they are in Govan in 1881 census. My mother told me that they had sons but they all died between 1873 and 1880? Rosina b 1871 d 1912 was my grandmother she was a french polisher and married Alexander Deas b 30 Dec 1872 Govan. They married in the Masonic Hall Govan. Their children were james Thomson Deas b.1 Dec 1894, William Wilson Deas b 1896, Mary Walker Deas b.1898, Christina Mc Queen Deas b 1900, Isabella Deas b 1902. Alexander Deas b 1904, Jessie Wilson Deas b 1906( my mother), Robert Deas b.1909 died in infancy 1910 and Katherine Pearson Deas b.1911. I have family details of all the above. I managed to get the Deas family back to 1630 --- Wemyss and Buckhaven Fife. We had a Deas reunion about 8 years ago. Jessie Wilson my grandmother's twin married a Kirkpatrick and lived in Largs --- I have some info for her. Mary Wilson b 1873 married a Ewing. I don't think that Lizzie married. When I was working on this over 15 years ago my mother said that Maggie went to Honolulu and was a Matron of ether the Eastern Star or White Shrine. Never got round to checking this out. My grandmother Rosina died in 1912 leaving a young family. Alex remarried and the children had a difficult life with the stepmother. The Wilsons did not seem to show a great deal of interest in the Deas children. I think that Alex who had a good job liked a drink. The Wilsons lived at good addresses and seemed quite prosperous. My mother said that her Uncle Adam Walker ( Mary's brother) was a printer possibly in Honolulu left £800 for each of William Wilson and Mary Walkers daughters but Rosina was dead by this time and her share never came to the Deas side. I have a photograph of Rosina, my grandmother, which I could email to you if you are interested. Several of Rosina and Alex Deas grandchildren have had very successful lives. Anyway you can let me know if you want any more info. Re Edward Reilly who was bottomer colliery worker died at 58 Ardeer Square Stevenson 0n 17 Feb 1863 of under nourishment. No spouse or parents given --- reporter was Janet Gemmell wife of Gavin Gemmell occupier ----never tried to follow this up. There are quite a few Reilly's in the poor law for Kilmarnock so that's on the to do list. Anyway pour yourself a dram and get a hot cloth ready for your head after reading this, talk to you soon, Marion. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I sure could sure some help; I am searching for a Mary Wallace(Wallis) born about 1800 and married to John Brodie. He died in 1855 but I haven't been able to locate her death records. According to his death records, she was still alive. I could use any help in locating more info on her. I did not locate her in the census after 1851. The family was in New Cumnock in 1841 and she said she was born outside of the county. The family was also in Auchinleck, Kilwinning and Irvine. wonder if this Brodie line might be related, since Agness is born outside of Ayr.??? There is also a Wilson in the hh. You mention a James Wilson(b.1792) married to a Janet Steven as the father of William Wilson. Is it possible you have the wrong James Wilson. I found a James Wilson (b.1779) who married a Janet Steven(b. 1793?) who children included a William born 1814 and a John born 1811. All were from the Coylton area of Ayrshire. James' parents were John Wilson and Janet Murdock. I am working on further back than this, but 2 sets of parents show up on family trees. Can you shed any light on this. Keep in touch- as you have stated- the Wilsons are very confusing. Thanks so much John Wilson in Iowa. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. A book on Scottish Family History research will give you information about these records, you really do need to know abit about the system before looking, maybe you would find something by using Google. For the later sasine books up to 1868 you need to order the indexes first and find your references to the abridgements, then order that film. The indexes are by place which is handy if you have a name for a farm. The indexes and abridgements are all typed and easy to read. Author: ACawdron Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ayr.general/6136.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi There Yes that is correct. John Lindsay was the eldest of 10 children to John Lindsay and Mary Wilson. They had 2 sets of twins Mary Wilson died a few days after giving birth to Mary and Robert. Robert died aged 18 and Mary my ancestor, and the second of 2 Mary's was brought by an aunt Nanny Gaw She was infact Agnes Gall her aunt. Mary can be found in the 1851 census living in Irvine with her aunt and uncle. I have looked at Scotland's people for the marraige of John Wilson and Mary Lindsay. His parents are William Wilson b 1815 Coylton and Margaret Wilson. William I believe is the son of James Wilson c 1792 and Janet Steven. James we beleieve is the son of William Wilson and Jean McCormick. I think he died before 1841, however I think Janet is in St Quivox. My ancestor Mary Wilson b 1804 was James's sister. The Wilson are indeed a very complex family and quite a difficult name to track being so common. With regards to Margaret Wilson I believe she is the daughter of William b1815 brother John Wilson and his wife Agnes Gray. (she may well be Agnes's daughter to someone else as Margaret like her mother was born in Lesmahagow, Lanankshire and taken her adopted father's name. The John who married Mary Lindsay was illegitimate he was born in Dreghorn 28/7/1854 can you tell me more about what happened to John Wilson and Mary Lindsay ? The Lindsay's also had family in Kentucky Regards Angela Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [AYR] Ayrshire Sasines 1660-1720...a lot of FHC films to search on the topic
    2. Meg Greenwood
    3. I went to the FHC Catalog search page online and entered 'sasines Ayrshire' but got nothing, not one hit. When I entered 'sasines Ayr', I got a series 54 microfilms orderable at almost any FHC. None were early enough for your request. There was a different series in the film catalog with 'Sasines' in the title for Ayrshire IN the years you need, but I really don't understand what will be in the film as the term 'particular register' isn't understood..... Minute books of particular register of sasines : 1599-1793 [This is overall years covered for Scotland counties. Ayr didn't have any back to 1599, they began 1661]. Ayr etc., v. 1- 4. 1661-1756 FHL BRITISH Film #216986 Ayr etc., v. 5- 7. 1756-1773 FHL BRITISH Film #216987 Ayr etc., v. 8-10. 1773-1785 FHL BRITISH Film #216988 There are also BURGH REGISTERS for Ayr, Ayrshire in the years you need. However, this is for the parish of Ayr. Film series is entitled : Burgh registers, Ayr, Ayr, minute books, sasines : 1597-1861 Minute books of sasines, 1597-1626 FHL BRITISH Film #298452 Film on shelf Minute books of sasines, 1713-1861 FHL BRITISH Film #298453 Film on shelf Minute books of deeds, 1662-1843 FHL BRITISH Film #298454 Film on shelf ------------------ Another title in this series : Craft minute books, weavers, 1657-1792 Craft minute books, fleshers, 1661-1821 Craft minute books, waulkers, 1611-1853 FHL BRITISH Film #298462 ------------------- The Sasines listed in the catalog for Ayrshire were listed as seen below....no particular parishes were mentioned in any of the series for all the different counties of Scotland. That's how I know this is a series covering Ayrshire, not Ayr in Ayrshire. The title of the film series is Abridgement of Sasines 1781-1868. Ayr, v. 1- 3. 1781-1830 FHL BRITISH Film #217095 Ayr, v. 4- 8. 1831-1860 FHL BRITISH Film #217096 Ayr, v. 9-10. 1861-1868 FHL BRITISH Film #217097 --------------------- The FHC in my city does not have any of these 3 films, I realize these are too late for your needs, there were no earlier ones listed. It will arrive in about 3 weeks unless its backordered [kiss of death for films...]. There are also 2 films with Indexes to Persons for the Sasines above ... Ayr, v. 1- 5. 1781-1850 FHL BRITISH Film #217031 Ayr, v. 6- 9. 1851-1868 FHL BRITISH Film #217032 -------------------- And there is another film with an Index to Places for the Sasines above... Ayr, v. 1-2. 1781-1830 FHL BRITISH Film #217076 ------------------------------ The FHC does have THREE of the films listed above currently on the shelves, they are Ayr, Ayrshire. FHL Film #298452 FHL Film #298453 FHL Film #298454 I do not know how they are formatted....day by day entries or alphabetically. If its simply the sasine register books, it would take looking at every one to find any specific names and that's not going to happen. If any are alphabetically arranged, I can look for LINN / LYNN. Write to me personally at scotquester@bartnet.net and I'll get into the FHC this week. There could be more Sasine films but they should be listed in the catalog under each parish name. They both were from Ireland so that could be an explanation. Cheers Robbie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
