    2. Ken & Alice Brown
    3. Hiya Mike Boyd of Brisbane is right in that James Paterson's books can be very helpful - they have helped me with my Brown ancestors and there are heaps of Campbells in them as well. I don't know about George Robertsons books but as far as James Paterson is concerned you don't have to go to the Burns Centre in Kilmarnock because Google Books have scanned them and they can be read for free on line. Just go to the website below for one example: http://www.archive.org/stream/historycountyay00pategoog#page/n6/mode/1up Incidentaly - the record keeping of the Campbell's of Auchmannoch (sasine records) enabled me to go back to the 1500's on my Brown line as my Brown ancestors in the parish of Sorn lived at the Hill of Auchmanoch for two hundred odd years. They bought it in 1572. 'Clan Campbell' records on Ancestry.Com have also been very helpful to me in tracking my Browns from farm to farm in Sorn. My Brown ancestors moved to the parish of Galston in about 1765 after marrying into the Meikle family there a generation earlier. They then lived on THAT farm for 200 years! My Brown ancestor John Brown married a Janet Meikle in 1721 in Galston parish but the farms they took over Loanhead and Loanfoot of Tulloch/Tilloch had been rented to Campbells (Loanfoot anyway) by Janet Meikle's father William Meikle for twenty years before the Browns took over. I would be interested if anybody knows THESE Campbells. Details are:;- JOHN1 CAMPBELL1 was born probably in Ayrshire, Scotland. Children of JOHN CAMPBELL are: 1. ISOBEL CAMPBELL, born 5/10/1739, Tillock, Ayrshire, Scotland. 2. JOHN CAMPBEL, born 10/2/1742, Tillock , Ayrshire, Scotland. 3. JANET CAMPBELL, born29/4/1746, Tillock , Ayrshire, Scotland. 4. ISOBEL CAMPBELL, b. 17/4/1748, Tillock , Ayrshire, Scotland. 5. JOHN CAMPBELL born 7/6/1750, Tillock , Ayrshire, Scotland. 6. MATTHEW CAMPBELL, born 25/12/1751, Tillock , Ayrshire, Scotland. 7. JOHN CAMPBELL, born 26/9/1754, Tilloch, Ayrshire, Scotland; died before 1833, Probably in Loudoun parish, Ayrshire, Scotland; married HELEN CARNDUFF, 20 June 1773, Avondale, Lanark, Scotland; b. 28 October 1764, Loudoun, Ayrshire. d. February 1833, Cotthill, Loudoun parish, Ayrshire, Scotland. 8. JEAN CAMPBEL, b. 3/5/1757, Tilloch, Lonefoot, Ayrshire, Scotland.

    3. Hi All, I'm still bashing my head against a bit of a brickwall here, re: my Ayrshire ancestors. The people I am researching are: William Finnie, who I believe may have been born in Stevenston, as he married his first wife, Mary Wilson, there in 1736. Mary's father was James Wilson, who lived in or near Largs. A couple of people have told me that William was born in Stevenston c.1712, to James Finnie & Anne Boyd. Another believes that his parents may have been Robert Finnie & Mary Boyd, also in Stevenston. I have been unable to confirm any of this. William married Ann Boyd in Ardrossan in 1745. The banns were read both in Kilmarnock and Ardrossan, which was where Ann was living at the time. William was living in Kilmarnock at the time of his marriage to Ann, and my 4th great-grandfather, John Finnie, was born there in 1762. Fingers crossed here, that somebody may have stumbled upon one or more of these most elusive of ancestors during the course of their genealogical "travels"!! :)) Kind regards, Lynne.

Effie married Duncan McCallum (1841-1873) in Bothwell in 1867 Dec 04 and they had two children: Mary Kerr McCallum (b 1868 Apr 14) and Margaret McLean McCallum (b 1871 Dec 22). The most recent record I have of the family is of Duncan's death in Bothwell in 1873 Feb 27. I can find no trace of Effie or her children in later census records or in marriage and death records in Scotland. What happened to them? Emigrated? Where? Angus

    3. Hi, John Gemmell (b ~1781, d in Sorn on 1825 Oct 03) and Margaret Peden (b ~1786 Sorn, d in Glasgow Anderston on 1862 Mar 16) were married in Sorn on 1806 Mar 15. Based on the Scottish naming pattern of children, and matching of dates and places, I have their parents tentatively identified as follows. John Gemmell: bap 1781 Jan 28 in Mauchline; s/o Thomas Gemmell and Agnes Elliot, who married in Mauchline on 1778 Feb 27. Margaret Peden: b 1786 Jun 19, bap 1786 Jun 26 in Sorn; d/o Alexander Peden and Janet Smith, who married in Sorn on 1778 Feb 22. Has anyone got hard evidence that would confirm or deny the connections made? Angus
