    1. [AYR] Roll Call: McKissock + Craig,
    2. Judy Minchinton
    3. My McKissock are line has married-ins Craig, McCurdy, Dempster and King. My grandfather is James McCurdy McKissock b. 1872 Newton on Ayr, he marries Margaret McCosh Craig in 1901, and they have 5 children in AYR and their 6th, my mother, in Vancouver BC. Grampa was one of 9 children born to George McKissock and Christina McCurdy. My grandmother Margaret McCosh Craig b. 1872 Ayr. Her mother died in 1880 and she and her sister Isabella Edgar were raised in the home of their paternal uncle, William Niven, a baker, and his wife Mary Craig - not related. Margaret's father is Thomas Craigb.1838 Dailly, a seaman, and I have little information on him. Not present at his wife's death or his infant daughter's only days earlier. I guess he was at sea. Thomas' father is Thomas (1796-1869) and mother Isabella Edgar (1798-1860) and I have found no death registration for Thomas b.1838. Happy to share information, and especially to get new info too. 3. Hello Janet, I took a look in the Br. Vital Records Index v2 for Blizzard births. There are 141 in total, 139 in England and 2 in Ireland. No James b. 1800, one James b. 1796 to Richard Blizzard and Elizabeth in Walton upon Thames, Surrey England. Black's Surnames of Scotland does not have Blizzard as a Scottish name. Perhaps your James married in AYR to an Ayrshire woman? 3. I notice many of you have listed names on your roll call who came from Stewarton. I live in Stewarton, so if anyone would like any photographs of certain streets, buildings (assuming they are still there) or gravestones, let me know and I will see what I can do. I am busy redecorating the office just now but once I get back into some kind of order, I will post a list of the names I'm researching.  One thing I have noticed is that no-one has posted the name Murray.  Is anyone researching Murrays?  My Murrays were miners and lived in Ochiltree, Cumnock and Patna. Great idea this role call, certainly brought the Ayrshire list to life again.  Can't remember who it was that posted the original 'is anyone there?' that got the ball rolling but well done and I wonder if you found any connections through it. All the best Laurna

    3. Hi Listers, I have belonged to this List for many years but feel this is a good opportunity to re-list my interests. I am trying to find descendants of John JOHNSTONE and Jane/Jean Mitchell MCMILLAN who lived in Old Cumnock. Jane's daughter, Elizabeth CARMICHAEL ( or MCMILLAN ) married Thomas BOA in Old Cumnock in1872 and had 5 children that I know of. Annie MCMILLAN married John ROBB in 1878 in Cumnock and also had 5 children James McMillan JOHNSTONE married Penuel Baillie ROSS in 1882 in Old Cumnock and had 9 children (my great grandparents) Robert McMillan JOHNSTONE was unmarried as far as I know but lived all his life in Old Cumnock. His death was notified by a grand-nephew A.S.ANDERSON living at 50 Barrhill Rd., Cumnock but I don't know who he was- as yet. Lastly,Margaret (Maggie) Crichton MCMILLAN (or JOHNSTONE) seems to have vanished as I can't find her after 1881 in the BMD indexes. Good luck everyone with your search. 3. This is not an Ayrshire incident, but I'm hoping someone on the list can shed some light on a certain custom or practice. In 1720, the Dumfries Kirk Session recorded that a certain single woman was rumoured to be engaged in scandalous behavior with a certain man and, on investigation, stated that she would give the man her Bible and marry him. In the meantime, the Session granted her six pence per week from the Poor Roll. Does anyone know about such customs? Loretta
