I have been working from Ayrshire records and I think I have my Young family worked out. I would surely like to know some history on these families. Not just dates. All I have below is from Ayrshire records so there may be more children for these families that I just haven't found yet. Hugh Young married Elizabeth Mitchell Aug 4 1730 in Kilwinning. Hugh could be the son of Hugh Young and Bessie Wilson of Fenwick records born June 12 1709 but he also fits for a son of Thomas Young and Anna Young (this Hugh Young born Jan 13 1703 in Kilwinning. >From records of Finwick Hugh Young and Elizabeth Mitchell had children as below: 1. HUGH1 YOUNG Scotland. He married ELIZABETH MITCHELL Aug 04, 1730 in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland. She died Mar 26, 1743 in Moor Yeat, Fenwick Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland. (Would like to know more about Moor Yeat as his wife and 2 of their children also died there from Fenwick burials) Children of HUGH YOUNG and ELIZABETH MITCHELL are: i. ELIZABETH2 YOUNG, b. (Mary Young was daughter of Matthew Young and Mary Cuthbertson of Fenwick)(Matthew Young was born April 11 1675 Fenwick, son of James Young and Mary Barr) ( David Gemmill was born 1696 and died Jan 19 1758 Laigh,Wyllieland, Fenwick Parish. David Gemmill and wife Mary Young are buried Fenwick Churchyard and on the reverse side of their monument is the Peter Gemmell who was shot to death in 1685 at age 21 and was a Fenwick Covenanter) (How is David Gemmill born 1696 related to Peter Gemmill born 1664 and died 1685, can't be his son though) Children of JOHN YOUNG and AGNES GEMMELL are: i. All- I have been very puzzled by the middle name of MacFarlane in my ancestor's names. There are two of them - James (b 1856) and Thomas (b. 1864). Now, a little background here - My great grandfather was Andrew Robertson Scollick Duff because he was born out of wedlock to Jean Scollick and Andrew Robertson almost 5 years before Jean Scollick married John Duff (of whom I know that he was born in Glasgow and his parents were Jean McMillin and John Duff and died in 1870). Ok, I got it now that great grandfather Andrew got his name after his true father. Now two years before Jean married John in 1858, she had Thomas' brother James MacFarlane Duff. Thomas was born in 1864 - 6 years after they wed. Why oh why would she name him Thomas MacFarlane Duff? Was James the illegitimate son of John Duff? No record of father on James birth certificate. John Duff was the father of Thomas. No previous generations of Scollick had MacFarlane connections. It must be from John's side then. Could the Macfarlane be from grandfather and uncles of John? I'm puzzled and I don't know where to look. Bob
Marc Have you tried the McQueen Net List at Rootsweb.com with any luck? I was at the Stone Mountain Games in Atlanta, Georgia in mid October and I am sure that I saw a tent with McQueen on it. They mayhave been at the Clans Gathering at Edinburgh in July last year as well. Thank you for your reply. Not my Watsons or my Howies, but my Great Great grandparents Sarah COWAN and Thomas McAughtrie married in Ayr 1849. Thos. was a dairyman, and obviously moved around a bit, they had children born in Colyton, Dalrymple, Kirkmicheal, and three in Maybole. I haven't been able to find parent info for Sarah Cowan, although I do seem to remember that Thos McA (Sarah's husband) died in Dundonald. I only say seem to remember, because of a computer fry, but I will check into my hard copy pile of McAughtrie stuff. It was either a death, or some census information, but I have a note about you on my to-do list. Hope I can help establish a connection. I will get back to you.
