I'm still chasing my Ann Boyd who married William Finnie in Kilmarnock in 1745. Ann was from Ardrossan, and according to the birth record for their first son, Archibald, this was her second marriage. So far, I've only managed to trace one possible previous marriage...to a Hugh Morris who lived in Saltcoats...and I don't think that the marriage ever took place, although they had put their names in for proclamation. Cheers, Lynne.
Am looking for help in finding information (possible relatives) of the subject couple. Henry LYONS was born about 1909 and died in 1982 in Girvan. He married Margaret Frood CRAIG, daughter of James Mcghee CRAIG and his wife Joanna Frood Millwain Meirle Wright MCKAY (yes, her complete maiden name). Margaret was born 1909 in Renfrew and died in 1995 in Girvan. Could someone please tell me how/where I could get an obituary lookup for Margaret, especially, and perhaps Henry. Thanks in advance. I have a Boyd in my GLOVER-FULLARTON family during the 18th century. (Un????) fortunately I am on a 28 day cruise around Australia and it will not be until about mid December that I can access and post the info. However as I am writing a family history, with chapters sequenced on when particular families arrived in Australasia, and I am on the GLOVER Chapter at the moment, I do hope that this discussion will still be of interest when I get home to Melbourne Cheers Peter Melbourne On Wed Nov 17 16:00 , ayrshire-request@rootsweb.com sent: Message: 1 Date: Wed, 17 Nov 2010 09:24:15 +1000 From: "Mike Boyd" <[1]mikejboyd@bigpond.com> Subject: Re: [AYR] Roll Call - Boyd To: <[2]AYRSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <[3]93E4337564F14B4492A32430A88BE024@DD4KCF1S> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original I would like to hear from any Ayrshire researcher who is a Boyd or have Boyds in their family tree. Lyn Thak you for that advice. This family of William Boyd and Ann Logan appears to be a new Boyd family for me. I will write a letter to you tomorrow. I will put this Boyd/Templeton family in Volume 16. Anne Boyd's entry as the only one i could find in the IGI The date of Anne Boyd's birth of 5 may 1850 appears in the IGI as a date of Christining. Hi Mike I am not a Boyd however I do have a Boyd marrying into my Templeton Clan. Anne born 5/05/1850, Ayr, Ayrshire and married Matthew Templeton 28/11/1876, Bougang, Colmonell, Ayrshire they have 8 children that I am aware off. Anne was the daughter of William Boyd and Ann Logan and I believe she was just one of at least 11 children all born between the years of 1850 and 1870. I don't have a lot of information of this branch of the Boyd's but if you think I can assist please email me. If you have any further information on these Boyds that you think may be of interest to me I would appreciate hearing from you. It is known that Colonel David Boyd was the natural son of:- L1 Robert Boyd, fifth Lord Boyd, bc 1517, d 3 January 1590,, bu in the Low Church of Kilmarnock, m 153x, (contract dated 1535) his cousin-german, Lady Margaret Colquhoun, daughter and heiress of George Colquhoun, fourth of Glens, and Margaret Boyd, b 15xx, d August 1601, bu Metropolitan Church of Glasgow, and had issue:- And that the known details about him are:- M10 Colonel David Boyd, of Tourgill, a natural son, b / /15xx ( ), d / /16xx, living 1613 and died before 1623 ( ), bu , Ireland?, m / /159x, Margaret Wallace, Lady Hayning, a widow, dau of Wallace, b / /15xx ( ), d / /16xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: ] - He had letters of legitimation under the Great Seal 11 July 1582, and a grant of the lands of Tourgill 8 August 1598. (This was 8 years after his father's death. So who was the grant given by?) David Boyd of Tourgill, Provost, appears as a witness at Edinburgh 6 November 1613. (Why was he made legitimate in 1582? Was this the date that he turned 21 years? - Mike Boyd's questions) Does anyone know who his mother might have been? I am not sure when he was born? But from the notes below, he was make a Colonel by 1583 which would suggest that he was at least over 30 or 40 years old at that time. >From the history of the Scots Dutch Brigade, it says:- "In 1583 ... Several places Flanders having fallen into the hands of the enemy, to prevent which the Scots and other troops, sent by the Prince of orange, had been despatched too late, the authorities of Bruges sent to Colonel Boyd 'whom they themselves made colonel,' and persuaded him to come to Bruges with his regiment of Scots, which was in their pay, and abandon Menin, where he had been in garrison." It would appear that in the Army of the Estates then contained 13 "cornets"* of Scots and 54 French cornets, but other countries.. (I am not sure that army unit is a cornet.) It would appear that quite a lot of Scots were then fighting in Holland at this time? During my trip to the UK and the USA, I now realise that Holland MAY BE A COUNTY WHERE A NUMBER OF BOYDS MAY HAVE GONE TO SETTLE from Scotland. However, I have no details of who, or when this migration may have taken place. But it may apply to other Ayrshire families whose younger sons seem to have disappeared in the 1500's. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

Hi Mike, I have a Mary Boyd born 1852, census reports give differing place of birth. Stevenston, Kilmaurs & Welland? Mary is possibly the daughter of William Boyd & Mary McLure. Mary married Mathew Clasper in 1870 Stevenston. Their daughter Margaret Clasper married into my McNab family. I would like to hear from any Ayrshire researcher who is a Boyd or have Boyds in their family tree. I currently have some 615 Separate Boyd families, divied into a number of Volumes of "Clan Boyd of Scotland". With over 132 separate Boyd family chapters for Ayrshire alone. I know that there are still quite a large number of other Boyd famileis that I do not have any infromation on. >From my trips to Ayrshire since 2005, I have quite a good outline of the Boyds of Kilmarnock (but still have over a dozen sources that I need to find time in the New Year to add this data to this Chapter. Plus family Chapters on the known Cadet Branches of Portencross, Pitcon, Bonshaw, Penkill and Trochrig. All these I have additional information that I also need to add data to as well in the New Year. I have just come back form 9 weeks in London, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the USA and think that I have found another 400 Boyd families in Scotland and Ireland plus about 100 USA Boyd families. Our aim is to build a Clan Pyramid of all the descendants of the Boyd since before 1200 AD Mike Boyd Chairman Historical Committee House of Boyd Society
