    3. Marg I have also copied this to the Aus-Military net list You will need to look up the British Commonwealth War Graves website to get James Dobbie's details. I can't recall if that will lead you to the Aust. War Memorial site where you might need to use his service number from the War Graves. This data might give you parents, etc Mike Boyd brisbane -----Original Message----- From: marg o'leary Sent: Friday, November 01, 2013 7:23 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [AYR] DOBBIE, DEAN, YOUNG. Hi all, Wonder if anyone can help. I am trying to track the family of James Dobbie who died in WW1, 1916. He was 41 years old, said he came from Glasgow and was a marine fireman before joining the Australian army (AIF)in 1916. I think he had arrived in Sydney abt 1901. Need to find a living relative. He does fit the profile of James DOBBIE born in Kilbirnie, 1875, whose family moved on to Glasgow later. The parents were James Dobbie and Mary Dean, m 1860. grandparents James Dobbie and Mary Young, all around Kilbirnie, Beith and Auchinloch. I have tracked this in Scotland's people and family search. What I cant find is any siblings for James b. 1875, and although his father was one of 8 children, cannot find any of them marrying etc. In other words a bit of a brick wall. What I wonder is if there are any cemetery of other local records that might supply some clues. Hope there are some local experts with some ideas. Thanks heaps. regards Marg Port Stephens NSW [email protected] also [email protected] ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

This maybe another interesting twist to the family Tree. I have William Allan born 24 March 1803 d 1872 and Mary Allan ( Kelso ) b 1820 D 1872 and a large array of the Kelso line. Ty so much for the link to Threetowners as almost all my ancestors were from Stevenston and some had died and worked in the Ader factory. I can see I will have a lot of reading to do :) It seems Margaret S Kelso born 1775 is a mystery and married James Allan B 20 April 1770, that elusive Marriage Certificate still awaits. 3. Hi In the "Statistical Account of Scotland" 1791-1799 for the parish of Currie in Midlothian (this family later moved to Ayrshire) it stated that the annual wage of a person employed at the paper mill was between L 1000 and L 1200 sterling. Would this mean between 1000 shillings and 1200 shillings p.a.? This seems an awful lot of money for the late 1700s. Many thanks for any help. Kerrie Australia
