A few months ago I was given a family tree chart in which is showed that Robert Boyd, Sr. was born about 1703 in Ireland and died 15 February 1786 in New York State, USA and he had married Jannet McAllister who died 2 May 1781 in New York State, USA. This chart shows that Robert’s parents were James Boyd, born about 1670 in Ireland and died 24 July 1743 in Ireland who married Janet Sampil/Sepal who was born about 1683 and 3 July 1739 Ireland. In the Ballyhalbert Church of Ireland Churchyard there is this grave “- James Boyd, of Ballyesbrugh, b 1670, d 24 July 1743 - Janet Boyd (nee) Sampel, b 1663, d 3 July 1739” So is the James Boyd on this family chart the same person as in the above grave at Ballyhalbert? It is further known that this Robert Boyd had four brothers of which is brother Samuel Boyd was older than Robert, but do date of birth is given for Samuel. On the data below, it would appear that Samuel was born about 1700 or 1701. Q1 Samuel Boyd, b 16xx ( , Co Down, Ireland?), d 1757 (New York City?), bu New York City?, NY, unm. Q2 Robert Boyd, b / /1703[1] ( , Co. Down, Ireland), d 15/2/1786 (New Windsor, NY)[2], bu Little Britain Cemetery, New Windsor, N. Y., m / /173x ( church?, place, Co Down?), Jennet McAllister, dau of and (nee ) McAllister, b / /170x (town, etc), d / /17xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- Q3 James Boyd, bc 1705 (Co. Down, Ireland), d 17xx (New Windsor, N. Y.), mc 1732[3] (Ireland), Sarah ?????, dau of ??, b 17xx, dc 1750 (Ireland), and had issue:- m 2ndly c 1752, Mary Boyd, dau of Wm? Boyd, [which Boyd family - Kent? ch 2/140], b 17xx, d 17xx, and had issue:- Q4 Nathaniel Boyd, bc 1707[4] (Co. Down, Ireland), d 18xx (Little Britain, N. Y.), m 174x (Co. Down?, Ireland), Margaret Beck, dau of Beck, b 17xx, d 17xx, and had issue:- m 2ndly 175x (Ireland), Martha Monsel (or Monel), dau of Monsel, b 17xx, d 17xx, and had issue:- m 3rdly 176x (USA), Jane Johnson, dau of Johnson, b 17xx, d 17xx, and had no issue:- ? Q5 Mary Boyd, b 17xx (Co Down, Ireland), d 17xx, m 17xx (New Windsor, N. Y.), Mr Waugh, son of Waugh, and had issue:- ? While from Samuel Boyd’s Will it is known that there was a younger brother, David Boyd, who was left behind in County Down, Ireland. Q8 David Boyd, b / /1712 ( , Co Down?, Ireland), d 24/5/1798 ( , Co Down, Ireland), bu Ballyhalbert Church of Ireland Cemetery, Ballyhalbert, Co Down, Ireland, m / /173x (church, town, county, Ireland?), Susanna Purse, dau of and (nee ) Purse, b / /1715 ( ), d 26/6/1754 ( ), bu Ballyhalbert Church of Ireland Cemetery, Ballyhalbert, Co Down, Ireland, and had issue:- While form the Ballyhalbert Cemetery there is this grave - David Boyd, b 1712, d 24 May 1798 - Susanna Purse, wife of David Boyd, b 1715, d 26 June 1754 - Nathaniel Boyd - Jane Boyd - Susanna Boyd (their children?) I would expect that there was still another older unnamed son to those listed above who also who was born before Samuel Boyd and also remained in Ireland to inherit this father “estate” Do any members have any data or knowledge of the McAllister or Sampil/Sempill/Semple families or data that might show that this Robert Boyd was the son of James Boyd and Janet Sampil? Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee House of Boyd Society -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [1]From an email on 30 October 1999 form Chris Tami. [2]Date and place from an Email from Chris Tami to me on 30 October 1999. [3] Given that his eldest son is given as being born in 1731, it is likely that he married in 1730. [4] I have estimated this date from the birth if his brother, James (Q3), who was born in 1705 and added the usual 2 years gap that was common between births.

I would guess Robbie is short for Robert, and Nan short for either Nancy, Ann, Agnes or Mary. They would be related to Alexander Ross born 20 Jun 1813 in Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland and Margaret Orr born 13 Oct 1822 in Kilmaurs, Ayrshire, Scotland who I am also a descendant of.
