However, the reason I'm replying is that I've been trying to do some research on the property at Ivy Bank because my own father had viewed the property with a view to buying it around 1972 -1973. Do you remember if Ivy Bank was at street level at the top of Bridge Street or was it a big house set further back in an elevated position which is now the Ivy Bank Villa Guest House? It has been really difficult to find out any of its history and I'm hoping that you may be able to share some memories of it with me. Once again, sorry I've been unable to help with your query and I hope that you have managed to find out some information about you dad. Hoping to hear from you Thanks Jackie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Matthew Woodrow JACK was 31 when he married Ann Lamont 20 in 1879. Matthew's parents were Robert JACK and Ann Woodrow. They all seemed to be farmers in the Beith area. The names of the farms were Nettlehirst and Shitterflat. Would anyone have information about these farmers or the land involved as if the farms were split up in order to make other smaller farms? Much obliged. Fay

My dad was David Galt, son of James Galt, eldest son of Adam Galt and Annie Kerr (their gravestone is still in the churchyard on Snowshill in Broadway) - they lived on a farm Kites nest also on Snowshill in Broadway. I once took Margaret Healey (nee Galt) to Kilbirnie and Luce Bay and we met an old aunt called Aggie (Aunty Zillah Galt gave us the address) - she pointed us to the Galt farm which is also still standing on Luce Bay, a large white farm house set back, facing the sea. Aggie said that the Galts employed a lot of the workers in Luce bay on their large dairy farm. I think the Kerr family were also dairy farmers as Aunty Zillah always said it was Annie who ran the farm as Adam was the furniture designer working for Cavendish House. We went to a very old graveyard in Kilbirnie and there are lots of huge gravestones with all the old Galt names (Hugh/Maggie/John etc.) I took a lot of pictues but there was a fault in my camera and none came out so I need to re-visit. There were also painters in the Kerr family (again Aunty Zillah told me this - she saine Annie herself was also a good painter). I have a book written by John Galt and illustrated by H. W. Kerr, I'd love to know what the connection is here - is this how Annie met Adam? I've also bought a print by H. W. Kerr of a scene called St. Patrick's Day in the Morning - it portrays a family scene sitting near a large hearth, the father is attaching sprigs of flowers to his hat in front of two smiling children. There is an old lady tending a large pot on the fire in the hearth. What's so weird is the man looks the spitting image of my eldest brother Steven :-) The bit of the family tree I know is; James Galt (my grandad) had three children, David (my Dad), Margaret and Robert (Bob), Dad married Mary Wilkes and had four children (Steve, me, Ian and David) - your husband Martin may remember my Dad - he was beautiful, but he died when he was 38 from lung cancer. Steve (born 1.9.1966) married Tracey Pinney and they have two beautiful children Taylor Galt (boy) and Mia Galt. I'm not married (born 11.1.68), Ian (born 20.1.70) married Lyndsey and they have two beautiful children Rene' Galt and Harry Galt, and David (born 4.10.72) married Joanne and they have three beautiful daughters Georgia, Olivia and Gracie. Mom (Mary Galt) is still very well and we're an extremely close and happy family. I've got some lovely old pictues of Ma' and Pa' and will upload them soon. I once saw an old photo of the Galt's at Kilbirnie - a family group sitting on the steps of a large doorway - we were at a 40th birthday party of a family member in Malvern (I made a note and that's why I organised the trip to Kilbirnie and Luce Bay) - I'd love to get a copy of that image and any other old photos any family members have. I'd also love a copy of Great grandad Adam and Annie's marriage certificate if possible. I'm also going to do some research on the furniture in Edinborough as that's all new to me. Would love to hear more. Donna Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [AYR] James MORRISON 1778 - 1848
    2. Mary Paton
    3. Hello List, My gg-grandfather was Ronald MORRISON born in Muirkirk 1798. His eldest brother was James MORRISON born 1778. I had no idea how to search for him until I found an undated letter from a William Morrison addressed to "Dear Uncle" in my parents' archives. He described himself as the son of James Morrison of Bristol. Not having a date for the letter I never found a James Morrison in Bristol until a couple of days ago when I discovered on the 1841 for Clifton: James Morrison 60 smith born Scotland Elizabeth Morrison 55 wife born in this county Gloucestershire Elizabeth Morrison 25 daughter dressmaker " " John 25 clock maker Martha 15 milliner James 16 apprentice blacksmith Jane 14 William 12 This would tally with the letter as William would have been in his 30s - 50s by the 1860s - 80s when I would guess the letter was written. It mentions my g-grandmother Margaret Morrison (1833 - 1909) who was one of Ronald's daughters. Or it could have been his aunt Margaret Morrison (1790 - ?). When he wrote the letter William was living at Union Square, New North Road, Islington, London. Does anyone connect with this family? I know Glenn in US (Alaska or Texas) descends from James's brother John so if I've found James it is a breakthrough. Cheers, Mary

    1. [AYR] The family of Cooper Boyd (1758-1832) and Elizabeth Bracken of Harford County, Maryland
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. I was recently given a website that outlined the descendants of Nicholas Boyd, the eldest child Cooper Boyd and Elizabeth Bracken. Cooper Boyd is the third child of John Boyd (1731-1799) and Agnes Cooper of Lancaster Co, PA. This John is the fifth child of Samuel Boyd (1689-1770) who married Margaret Campbell, most likely in County Antrim, Ireland, and came to America in 1736. While Samuel, was the first child of John Boyd (1656-17xx) and Miss Moore, daughter of James Moore, Sr. of Ireland. It is assumed that Samuel lived in County Antrim and he is said to be the son of Captain Adam Boyd of Ireland, whose origins are uncertain but a number of sources say he came to Ireland with the Scottish Army in the 1640’s. This has yet to be proved. He might also have come with Cromwell’s Army or been a “Captain” with one of the local Irish forces of this period defending the Protestant’s of Ireland. I do not known the origins of “James Moore, Sr. of Ireland”, but I do know that there was a Moore family in the area between Ballymoney and Dunlace in northern County Antrim. This family stems from the Mure’s of Rowallen in Ayrshire who had married a Margaret Boyd of Bonshaw in 1494. So this Moore family of Ireland, may have maintain a link between the Boyds and Moores which the family of James Moore might be able to This Captain Adam Boyd, is also claimed to be the great grandfather of Rev Adam Boyd of Upper Octorara, Chester County, PA, who was born in 1692 in Ballymoney, County Antrim. With Rev Adam Boyd being the fourth Adam Boyd in a line. It is said that Cooper Boyd was born in Drumore Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on 18 December 1758. (From memory Drumore township is next to or near Chestnut Level, Lancaster County, PA.). He died on 12 August 1832 in Harford County, Maryland, but the town is not given. His wife, Elizabeth Bracken, was born 11 February 1764 in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware and died on 3 November 1840 in Hartford County, Maryland. (Again no town given.) Children of Elizabeth Bracken and Cooper Boyd are: 1. Nicholas Boyd was born 13 MAR 1783 in Harford County, Maryland, and died 2 JAN 1846 in Marietta, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He married Rachel Weeks 2 SEP 1818 in Harford County, Maryland. She was born 23 AUG 1793 in Harford County, Maryland, and died 25 JUN 1848 in Street, Harford County, Maryland. 2. John Boyd was born ABT 1784, and died BEF 1848. He married ????? Ailes. 3. Susannah Boyd was born ABT 1785, and died UNKNOWN. She married Robert Smith in about 1800, while he was born about 1780. 4. Joseph Boyd was born 6 AUG 1789, and died ABT 1865. He married Mary Heiner who was born about 1790. 5. Cooper S. Boyd, Sr., was born 5 JAN 1792 in Harford County, Maryland, and died 30 MAY 1850 in Harford County, Maryland. He married Milcah Taylor on 22 Feb. 1821 in Harford County, Maryland. She was born 13 FEB 1802 in Maryland, and died 25 DEC 1887 in Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia. 6. Alice Boyd, was born ABT 1794, and died UNKNOWN. She married Samuel Ailes. He was born NOV 1777 in Probably Pennsylvania, and died AFT 14 JAN 1834 in Muskingum County, Ohio. (It is not given if Samuel was a brother to John Boyd’s wife (2). 7. Betsey Boyd was born 16 APR 1794. (it is not clear if she married or died young.) 8. Sarah Boyd, was born ABT 1800, and died BEF 1848 in Harford County, Maryland. She married Richard Ward, Jr. on 23 Jan. 1820. He died before 1840 Harford County, Maryland. 9. Margaret Jane Eleanor (Janellen) Boyd, was born 6 JUL 1805 in Harford County, Maryland, and died 16 SEP 1875 in Mahaska County, Iowa. She married James E. Fisher 22 Oct. 1821 in York County, Pennsylvania, son of Thomas Fisher. He was born ABT 1795 in Harford County, Maryland, and died 14 MAY 1852 in Kenton County, Kentucky. The only town given for these children is “Street, Harford County, Maryland” for the son Nicholas Boyd. So I am uncertain if this might be the town/area that Cooper Boyd and Elizabeth Bracken might have lived in, but it would be a starting point searching for Land, Census, Vital and other records for this family. The other area to search would be the Harford County histories. Are any of these children part of your family tree? If so, I would like to hear from you please, so I can add your known family to the family Chapter for Captain Adam Boyd of Ireland. I would also like to hear form anyone who might be able to add to the origins of any of the spouse families, whom seem to carry a number of good Ayrshire names. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee House of Boyd Society

That marriage was not found at FamilySearch, perhaps it was in Ireland though an Index search at RootsIreland.ie finds no such marriage. A submitted family at Ancestry.com with some sources has a probable match for Mary...says she was born 4 Oct, 1867 in McGowanston, Ayrshire which seems to be 3y off the correct year but is the exact same date. Getting the Birth record from ScotlandsPeople.gov.uk/ as suggested by Jo-Ann would confirm that. The submitted tree is called Addis Family Tree submitted by Sonja Addis. There is a picture of Mary, she died Ontario Canada at Thunder Bay on Oct 30, 1930. No parents of Michael KEEGAN are given though Jo-Ann's 1861 census shows the father to be named Stephen KEEGAN born Ireland about 1791. The submitter has Michael and Bridget's children as only being James, Mary, Steven and Rosanne. John and William are not seen as being children, perhaps they died young ? The submitter has the family in Kirkoswald for the 1871 and 1891 census. There are a few other siblings with submitted information, the father, Stephen age 70 is not in the 1871 census, likely was deceased by then. Finding his Death Registration if in Scotland would indeed reveal his parent's names if the Informant knew them. 3. The Flodden Battlefield is very worthy of a stop if you are in the area. We actually stumbled onto it the first time wondering what the large cross was for. You can walk the field with well documented illustrated boards. Begin at the cross atop the high ground. Without digging out the brochure I think the stats that caught my eye was that men (15,000?) died on the day at Flodden at the same rate as the worst in the Battle of the Somme in WWI In any case, a very interesting historical place to see. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, February 5, 2014 8:07 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [AYR] Casualties at Flodden Sept. 9, 1513 This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
