    3. Richard No I have not seen this. How might I get a copy? We know that John Boyd, the grandson of Colonel David Boyd who came in 1606, settled in Glastry, but not when. O2 David Boyd, b / /163x ( ), d / /1694 ( ), bu , m / /165x (church, town, county, etc), Margaret Kennedy, dau of and (nee ) Kennedy, b / /163x ( ), d / /16xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: of Glastry, County Down, Ireland ] and we know that they had a number of children. We also know that there have been a number of Boyds in Glastry until 1990 and most likely after that date. As many Boyds in in Ireland were Presbyterians, I ASSUME that those Boyds at Glastry and Ballyhalbert were also Presbyterian - but I have no evidence of this. So I would expect that Boyds were members of the Glastry Church and even were church elders. So are any Boyd members listed in this publication? Thank you Mike Boyd Brisbane, Aust. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, May 27, 2014 9:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [NIR-DOWN] Re: Petition of Men Against a French Invasion on 13 April 1757 Hi Mike, Thank you for your reply. 3. Sorry on a second look I noticed that it has the source of "13 April 1756 Belfast Newsletter" I do not know if the "Belfast Newsletter" is online at the Newspaper Library in Belfast that might allow people to search online. So where might the originals of these Petitions have been stored and do they give more than just the name of the person? Thank you Mike Boyd -----Original Message----- From: Mike Boyd Sent: Monday, May 26, 2014 9:51 AM To: [email protected] ; [email protected] ; [email protected] ; [email protected] ; [email protected] Subject: [BOYD] Petition of Men Against a French Invasion on 13 April 1757 I was recently sent a list of about 70-80 men from Ballyhalbert (we think village rather than Parish) – so the question is did any other groups in 1756 also make Petitions for this purpose. The list I have only lists those men, but might the original also give a location/address or even a occupation? The Boyd family that I am looking at had four brothers go form Ballyhalbert, Ard Peninsular, County Down. With one brother being a taylor in New York City and bring his other three brothers to NYC in the 1750’s and they then settled in New Windsor, Orange County, NY. WE have yet to determine if any of these names also settled in either New York City or in Orange County, NY, BUT SOME of the surnames come up in Boyd families that went to Pennsylvania in the 1700’s, but I do not know if these spouse family names also came form Ballyhalbert, County Down or other parts of Ireland. I hope that this might help in their research Mike Boyd Brisbane, Aust. ==================== *** Remember to trim your message before hitting send or your message may be held on the server for being too large due to excessive quoting. *** Deleting quotations of earlier messages will help keep within the limits when replying. 3. Mike, I googled belfast newsletter 13 April 1756 which led me to http://clydesburn.blogspot.co.uk/2010/06/petition-from-inhabitants-of.html. It shows the following Boyd brothers: Boyd,James / Boyd,John / Boyd,Robert / Boyd,Samuel / In amongst other names. I scrolled down to Searching for Ulster-Scots or Ulster-Irish Ancestors? This led me to AncestryIreland.com which was created by the Ulster Historical Foundation. I put in 'Boyd' in the surname box. For births in Co. Antrim and Co. Down there are3214 results!
