My father was later taken back to Scotland with a nannie and was on the high seas when WW1 was declared. My Grandfather Sam followed him in 1915 he married again in 1917 to Jennie Richardson Hook a Hawick girl, they were married in Saltcoats Ayrshire. Some of our family moved to the west coast of the USA. a lady called Gayle Fuson contacted me several years ago but I have lost contact as all my emails were lost in a computer crash. (This was 8 years after his father's death. So who was the grant given by?) David Boyd of Tourgill, Provost, appears as a witness at Edinburgh 6 November 1613. (Why was he made legitimate in 1582? Was this the date that he turned 21 years? - Mike Boyd's questions) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [1]Can his Army record be traced through the British Army Lists of the time? This date of 1582 of Colonel Boyd seeking “letters of legitimation “ has always puzzled me for the last two or so decades. My first thought was that this was when he became 21 years old. But then I found that the City of Bruges in the Low Countries made him a Colonel in about this same period. So he had to be older than 21 years old. (I am still looking for his date of birth and death.) It has only just occurred to me that Colonel David Boyd may have wished to have taken out his “Arms” as being a commander of a Regiment. Mary and Helen's parents were George Syme and Margaret Morton. I have done extensive research on the both the Morton and Syme family trees.
