I am trying to find out more about Robert - whose occupation was mason. The towns you mention are all in the region of Ayrshire - if that is a help. Not terribly far away from each other. Ancestry now occasionally shows maps with census records from Scotland now which may help you see the lay of the land. My Robert Stevenson had a son Thomas born in 1818 - not sure how much I have on him but will check further if you're interested - or if you are still monitoring this board! Author: jkwilliams186 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ayr.general/14519.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Dear Thomas, Papers relating to Titwood Farm, Ayrshire, let by the Eglinton estates, could be in several places. Scottish archive catalogue searches can be made at: The National Records of Scotland (previously SRO and NAS) http://catalogue.nrscotland.gov.uk/nrsonlinecatalogue The NRAS online register http://catalogue.nrscotland.gov.uk/nrasregister/welcome.aspx The National Library of Scotland http://www.nls.uk/catalogues SCAN the Scottish Archive Network http://www.scan.org.uk/ (SCAN should pick up items held in university collections and places like the Mitchell in Glasgow, as well as major national collections.) Local Ayrshire possibilities: Ayrshire Archives http://www.ayrshirearchives.org.uk/ North Ayrshire Heritage Centre http://www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/resident/leisure-parks-and-events/heritage/museums.aspx Using SCAN searches I found a brief history of the Montgomeries, the Earls of Eglinton (person code DS/UK/25064). I should warn you there appear to be substantial quantities of records relating to the Eglinton estates held in Edinburgh - some 87 metres! This appears in this entry about these papers (National Records of Scotland GB234/GD3) and I feel gives a good idea of the range of places papers might end up: "The main part of the Eglinton papers was deposited in the Scottish Record Office in 1952. It was transferred from Skelmorlie Castle, but had previously been stored in Edinburgh. There were several subsequent deposits. A copy of the National Covenant was added later that year and in the same year the Schaw Statutes (Sir William Fraser, Memorials, ii, no. 202) were transferred to the Grand Lodge. Writs of the Bourtreehill Estate were transferred from Messrs. Blair and Cadell in 1953. Minutes of the Earl of Eglinton's trustees 1820-183 and the account books of the trust 1820-30 (10 volumes) were deposited by Lt. Cdr. Hamilton of Rozelle in 1954. Papers of the Montgomerie Estate (which descended to Lt.Col. Kidston-Montgomerie through a daughter of the 14th Earl) were transferred in 1955. Some Eglinton estate records were transferred to the County Planning Officer, Ayr, in 1952 and went to the SRO in 1956. They included papers relating to Ardrossan Harbour, some of which had alr! eady come in 1952. A book of Eglinton plans came from Ayr County Planning Office in 1956. A quantity of estate papers was received in 1983." The NRS catalogue shows there are plans of the estate at RHP3, but Titwood doesn't seem to be specifically mentioned (1789 onwards). A brief history of the Eglinton estate can be found here: http://www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/resident/leisure-parks-and-events/eglinton-park/History/EglintonHistory.aspx So, there's a fair amount to trawl through. Happy hunting and good luck, Kay in Edinburgh Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [AYR] The family of Robert Boyd and Isibel Hamilton of Irvine, Ayrshire
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. I have just been sent part of the family of Robert Boyd born about 1765 (thought to be in Irvine, Ayrshire) and his wife Isobel Hamilton born about 1765. I do not have their marriage date, but as the date of their son’s Robert birth is given as 19 October 1791 in Irvine, Ayrshire, I would expect that they married in late 1780’s. Robert Boyd, the father, was termed a mariner. It is know that the son, Robert Boyd was married on 23 Oct 1812 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire to Janet Alexander, whose parents were Alexander Alexander and Jean Bryson. In about 1823 he and Janet and family migrated to West Glover, Vermont and bought a 60 acre farm. Robert died there on 19 Nov. 1834 and Janet died on 1 April 1837 at Greensboro, VT. At this time it is not known if any Boyd or Alexander siblings might have also gone to this area of Vermont, USA. Robert Boyd shortly after he arrived in 1823 was appointed a Elder of the Craftsbury [Reformed] Presbyterian Church – suggesting that he was a member of the Reformed Church or covenanters in Ayrshire. I am looking for any other children of Robert Boyd and Isobel Hamilton and their origins Thank you Mike Boyd

I'm struggling to find out who her parents are as there were so many Pickens in Stewarton and surrounding areas at the time. Their first daughter Margaret was born in Stewarton in 1747. The mystery continues!! Ellen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You have cleared up a mystery which has been puzzling me since I started on family history research. I would never have been able to find this out if you hadn't answered. It's been very helpful of you, and I thank you again for taking the time. Janice Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
