Author: johnse64 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ayr.general/4922.2.1.1.3.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Tanya, Here's what I can tell you about the McInvenys. Hannah Jamieson, daughter of Robert and Catherine, married John O. McIiveny (b. 16 Feb 1865 Stevenson, Ayrshire, Scotland, d. 14 Apr 1918 Marseilles, La Salle County, Illinois) about 1893. John O. was the son of John McIlveny (b.Ireland, d. bef 1900) and Margaret J. Davidson (b. Dec 1843 Sterling, Scotland, d. after 1920). Hannah and John had 5 children: Margaret Jane (1894 - 1965), John H. (1896 - 1947), Robert James (1897 - 1953), James E. (abt 1903 - after 1940), Harold A. (1913 - 1974). After John O. McIlveny's death, Hannah married Ernest Wahlberg (b. about 1888 Sweden). I have information about marriages for two of Hannah and John's children. Margaret Jane married Herman James Haenisch (b. 1884), and they had two children: Margaret F. (b. 1920) and Herman J., Jr. (b. 1922). Robert James married my aunt (grandfather's sister), Margaret Joan Johnsen (b. 21 Dec 1898 Chicago, d. 6 May 1964 Chicago). They had one daughter, Marjorie Anne (still living). Robert and Margaret divorced sometime before 1940. Robert served as a corporal in the Infantry during WWI. (His brother, John, also served during WWI. They are both listed in the La Salle County Honor Roll at http://www.illinoisancestors.org/veterans/lasalle_county_m.html) In the 1940 census he is listed as divorced and is living with an aunt, Margaret Schneider, in Minonk, Illinois. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, as is his brother John. Hope this helps. If you or anyone else has more information about these people I'd love to get it. 2. PMR via
    3. Greetings Listers I was checking some of my Scottish ancestors' details on the Internet (ever hopeful!) and found a listing for Christian DRENNAN (or maybe DRINNAN) as being born/baptised in Tarbolton on 27 October 1775, d/o Alexander DRENNAN and his wife Isobel ms NICOL. Some years ago, I found a baptism for Christian DRENNAN in the OPRs for the same date and place but as d/o John DRENNAN and Margaret ms RALSTON. Did I get cross-eyed and read the wrong parents? Is anyone able to help me sort out which parents I should have for Christian (who married Alexander MOIR in Tarbolton on 28 Dec 1798). Christian and Alexander are my 4 x ggps. Many thanks. They lived in LA and died there also. Would love to hear from any person in this blog thing. Robert Jamieson and Hannah came from Lisbuen, Antrim County, Northern Ireland and immigrated to Scotland. 3. Joseph Fulton is also an Ayrshire name. Where is the townland of Bleary in County Down? In 1606, a number of Ayrshire families came with Sir Hugh Montgomery and sir James Hamilton to settle their Estates in Eastern County Down and the Ards Peninsular. So your Holland family might go back that far before connecting to Ayrshire. I will post these reply to the Down list in case people there might recognise the names. 1. [AYR] James Boyd - Child of Robert Boyd, glover of Kilmarnock, and Margaret Thomson
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. In the History of the Boyd Clan and Related Families by Frederick T. Boyd Ph. D., 1962, page 7, it says:- “17 Hon. Robert Boyd, a glover of Kilmarnock was born 6 August 1689 and died in November 1761. He was the brother of William Boyd, 2nd Earl of Kilmarnock. [a] He married Margaret Thomson 25 October 1714 by whom he had eleven children. His tenth child: 18 James Boyd (1732-1798) moved to America in 1756. He married first Susanna Coffin Aug. 11, 1757 in Newbury, Mass., and secondly, Abigall Bulfinch in Boston, July 23, 1791.” (a) This is an incorrect statement. The First Earl’s son Robert was born in 1670 and not in 1689 and he died in about 1710 in the Lowlands. Unfortunately, Dr Boyd did not cite any source for this statement that James Boyd of Newburyport, Mass. was the tenth child of Robert Boyd and Margaret Thomson. While on pages 25-26 of this book, Dr Boyd in a tree outlining the family of Tristram Coffin (1605-1681), shows that in the 5th generation of the Coffin family states “5 Susanna Coffin (1735-1788) m. James Boyd Aug. 11, 1757 after his arrival in America from Kilmarnock, Scotland. Susanna was raised in the Tristram Coffin House in Newbury. James Boyd was the 10th child of Hon. Robert Boyd, and grandson of William Boyd, 1st Earl of Kilmarnock. James was born 1732 and died in Boston, 1798.” Again there is no citation of any source for the place of James Boyd in the family of Robert Boyd and Margaret Thomson or the number of children they had. Nor did he name who were the other 10 children of Robert and Margaret Boyd. So do any members know of any sources that Dr Boyd might have used in 1962 to write these claims on the family of Robert Boyd and Margaret Thomson? Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    1. [AYR] Danston Farm near Dalrymple and the DEMPSTER family
    2. PMR via
    3. Greetings Listers On the 1841 Census and 1851 Census, my 3 x ggps (Thomas DEMPSTER and Margaret ms LEES) are listed as residing at Danston Farm, which, I've been told, is (or probably was!) 8 miles east of Dalrymple. Can anyone give me any information about Danston Farm please? I was sent some information some years ago, but thought, with the passing of time, more information may be available. I have no information as to where Thomas owned the farm, or was, as I suspect, a Tenant Farmer there from about 1820/21 to at least 1855. Other families may also have had homes or worked on the farm at the same time. I'm in the process of writing a story about Thomas and Margaret and family (14 children!) - if anyone has any information about them, I'd love to hear from you. I know that at least their son John emigrated to USA. Many thanks Pam Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com
