    3. Hello Pam, Have you considered that Alexander could have been born and baptized in Ireland? There was a lot of interaction between SW Scotland and Ireland and Brodie is an Irish name I think. Just a thought and we have not had much success searching for Irish ancestors - but we have had some! Cheers, Mary

I was given some Eccles information in the 1980s by a distant Eccles relative and I have not been able to verify all of it, but he seemed to think Gilbert and Margaret were Alexander's parents. He said Gilbert died in Ayr in 1792 aged 80. This fits with the mistranscribed Scotland's People record you tracked down - definitely is Eccles not Eules (well done!). According to the information I was given, Alexander and Marion married in 1755 at Daltnagan Farm, Barrhill in Colmonell parish. This date does fit with OPR recorded baptisms of their children. If Marion was baptised in 1724, then she would have been in her early 30s at marriage and given birth to Gilbert age 38, so it is a possibility. I have information that Jean/Joan Mitchell died at Masonhill Farm, Ayr on 11th November 1823, but nothing for Gilbert. Sorry not to be able to be of more help, Kay. You mentioned Margaret Baird in your reply to Annette Collins. I found a Burial Record for a Margaret Baird (relict of Gilbert Eccles) in the OPR. ECCLES, MARGT (O.P.R. Deaths 578/00 0090 0069 Ayr) for 21/8/1795, which I assume to be the Margaret to whom you refer? Interesting to know that they may be parents of Alexander which I didn't know before. Also thank you for information on Gilbert who died in 1792 - I was unaware of his death but found it today under Gilbert Eules. I have previously found a Baptism for a Marion McIlmorrow (McLmorrow) 20/9/1724 in Kirkoswald to John (the Younger) and his wife Margaret Underwood, who married there 3/7/1722. (They also had other children.) Following naming patterns of Alex/Marion's children of John, Margaret and Gilbert, do you think! this might be our Marion? Can't be certain I suppose. Also do you know, by any chance, where Gilbert (husband of Jean Mitchell) is buried? Regards Fionnuala Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have a Captain Andrew Stewart marrying Sarah Stewart at Gortigal and James Stewart and Barbara Lindesay at Ballymenagh and two sisters. They were probably related to Lord Ochiltree as reported in Stewart Clan Magazine Volume 37 Number 3. No particulars are available, except that Capt. Andrew Stewart had an elder brother James, who purchased Cookstown; a sister Barbara, who married Rev. Richard Darroch, rector of Derrytown; and a sister Grizel, who married -------- Richardson of Clogher, County Tyrone. Capt. Andrew had at least one son--Hugh-whocame into possession of Gortigal. Hugh married Margaret Morris and had two sons-James, who became rector of Cheynor, of whom nothing more is said, and John, who was born in 1681 and succeeded as proprietor of Gortigal. John married Mary Kennedy, They were parents of Rev. Hugh Stewart, born in 1711, who became rector of Termon, County Tyrone. Rev. Hugh married Sarah Hamilton, and had three sons--John, Andrew and Henry. John, who was born in 1757, was created a baronet of Athenry in 1803. Andrew, his brother, was an official of the East India company, and Henry, the other son of Rev. Hugh, was rector of Loughgilly, County Armagh. So it means that none of these later generations, from Rev. Hugh on down, was among our early immigrants. Farther back, in Capt. Andrew Stewart's day, there may have been an olfshoot which proliferated into a bevy of emigrants. James Stewart, said to have been an elder brother of Capt.
