There are only 2 births for the name Emily LOVE shown on Scotlands People web site in all districts of Scotland. The second listed Emily C. Love of Dumbarton is shown with her parents on the 1901 so she can be discounted. An unusual name and the entire Civil registration period there are only 5 births noted as Emily Love so your chances are good of finding her parents and those of her sister if they were indeed born in Scotland. 3. Hi Mike, Spent my childhood in Geelong, pity it is so far away would love to visit. I would also like a summary of your places to visit and stay in Ayrshire. I’m mostly interested in West Kilbride. So I guess Ardrossan would be best ?? We have talked before on Boyds but I see you have Montgomery in your interests as well, where are they from ? I have Montgomery married into my Gemmell line. Some went to Australia. Irene in Hamilton New Zealand Today's Topics: 1. Geelong Highland Games Sunday 1 March at Deakin University Waurn Ponds campus (Mike Boyd) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This is to advise those Boyd living in the Geelong and Melbourne areas, I will at the Boyd tent tomorrow, Sunday 1 March. I will be quite happy to talk to about your Boyd family and add it to the 750 Boyd family Chapters that I have already collected or to help you develop your own tree. If you can?t attend, I will be staying at the Comfort Inn Eastern Sands (1 Bellerine Street, Geelong) so I have put aside an hour at 7.30 pm on Sunday 1 March, if anyone wishes to talk to me about their family or visit Scotland. I have been going to Scotland since 2005 nearly every years, so I have built up a little traveling information and where to research, etc, which I am quite happy to pass onto others. For those that have Ayrshire families, the Boyd lived there prior to 1306 and have married into many of the Ayrshire families such as Montgomery, Blair, Kerr, Cunningham, Muir, Campbell, Crawford, Wallace, Kennedy and many other families, so I have some knowledge on these families as well. Owing to Scottish pronunciation, the published Glasgow Commissariot Register of Testaments for 1547-1800 includes Love and both variations under the single heading "Love (Luiff)". 3. Glenda, Find My Past's Merchant Navy and Maritime is the Collection you are looking for. It is on Find My Past UK under Education and Work (look down the left hand side to filter). Irene, my friend found a Colin Gemmell b 9 Feb 1891 Fort William Inverness in Find My Past, but no others - it may be worth widening the search. Her method of searching is looking for the surname, then filtering to the Collection and then maybe by first name, birth date and birth location. Judy ........ I am interested in this site and have a Findmypast sub but can not find it.(Glenda) I am looking for my uncle Colin Cochrane Gemmell b 1907 West Kilbride. I have photos of him n uniform so know he was in the Merchant Navy. Can you tell me how to look for him please. (Irene) From: "Judy Wardlaw" Re query from Glenda concerning William Thomson born 1900 in Ayr. In Family Search there is a mention of a William Thomson born 1900 Ayrshire in the United Kingdom, Merchant Navy Seaman's records as his Military Service 1918 -1921. This had been extracted from "Merchant Navy Seamen 1835-1941," index and images, findmypast (http://www.findmypast.com : citing BT 112-116, 119-120, series BT350, The National Archives of the UK, Kew, Surrey. Her name was Margaret Fisher Thomson born 28/09/1898 at Ayr, Scotland. She had a brother William Thomson born 02/04/1900 at Ayr, Scotland. Their parents were William & Helena Thomson (nee Welch/Welsh). Margaret was separated from her brother William after their mother died 22/12/1907 at Paisley, Renfrewshire. I am especially interested in what happened to William. I would appreciate any information regarding this family.
