    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: GLKeith_73 Surnames: Speirs, Marshall, Hallock Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ayr.general/14537/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Janet Speirs Marshall is my husband's great great grandmother. She was born in Paisley, Scotland and emigrated to Michigan with her husband, John Marshall, in 1842. Her brother, David Speirs, lived in Paisley, Scotland and died on Aug. 22, 1873. John Marshall met Janet while working as a designer for David's weaving mill. I have a book written by Janet Speirs Marshall's grandson, Earl Pack Marshall, called 80 Years of Change which has some information about Janet and her brother, David. There is also a fair amount of information about the Marshall family in Almont and (later in Imlay City), Michigan during the 1800s. This books also has a little information that may be of interest to families with the surname of Hallock as two Marshall sisters (Elizabeth aka "Libby" and Janet aka "Nette"married two Hallock brothers (George Sterling and Edgar Charles). My husband's family are descendants of Libby (Marshall) and Edgar Charles Hallock. Would welcome collaboration with others researching the Speirs, Marshalls and/or Hallocks. I further descend through John's son James, who married > Helen Kennedy Swann in 1864 in Muirkirk. Hello George, Nice to hear from you again. As you probably recall I am pretty certain that we are very distantly related! There were two Jean Goldies in Muirkirk in the days of your ggg-grandparents. One was my gg-aunt, the daughter of Hugh Goldie and Elizabeth Kay/Kaye, The other was my 1st cousin 4 times removed, the daughter of George Goldie and Hannah Kay/Kaye. I believe Hugh and George were brothers and Hannah and Elizabeth were sisters so the two Jeans were double-first cousins, granddaughters of James Kay and Jean Mitchell. I think it was George and Hannah's daughter who married William Loggie which would make us probably double 4th cousins once removed! It is also possible that the Jean Goldie who married William Loggie was the one who was daughter to Hugh Goldie and Elizabeth Kay. Does this make sense and do you agree? Best regards, Mary

    2. Ewan Steed via
    3. Morning Like Bill and others I have a connection to the "BRYDEN" families of which, I think, there are at least 3 distinct lines (?) not yet linked. Mine is through an illegitimate daughter Jane born 1878 in Kilgrammie (Ayrshire) who married Thomas STEED - they were in the Dairy business. Her mother was Euphemia born circa 1857 and was the daughter of a Thomas BRYDEN and Jane McMURTRIE. Thomas' parents were John and Ann COOPER who married 1826 in Dailly. Anyone has these in their "tree" would love to hear from you. Regards Ewan Steed

The information I have so far, is: PATRICK FINNIE Pedigree Male Birth: 26 MAR 1701 Christening: 06 APR 1701 Inverkip, Renfrew, Scotland Father: ROBERT FINNIE Family Mother: JONET DUNLOP Janet Finnie (A.K A. Dunlop:) buried 30.12.1730 Largs-Spouse -Robert Patrick Finnie's birth record clearly states that his parents lived in Largs. My 5th grandfather, William Finnie, was said to have moved to Kilmarnock from Constablewood, Largs. He married Ann Boyd in Ardrossan in 1745, but prior to this was married to Mary Wilson in Largs in 1736. Patrick married Elizabeth Boyd and all of their children were born at Constablewood.
